I thought that it was about time that we shared our exciting news!
Two weeks tomorrow we had our 20 week scan and fortunately the baby was cooperative and let us eager parents in on their gender. It was such an exciting morning! I wasn’t as nervous for this scan as I was the first as I had felt the baby move that morning and felt assured that they were doing well at my 16 week midwife appointment. Alfie was working, but luckily he works in the same hospital as my maternity ward, so he just popped over in time for the scan. Initially all we could see was the baby’s spine and I was a little disappointed as I thought that the little lentil wouldn’t turn around, but as I’ve grown to learn over the past few weeks this baby likes to move a lot and we got a lovely surprise when the baby did…
Yep…we are having a beautiful baby boy! My mama’s intuition was correct, I don’t know if you remember but I mentioned in this post that I thought that I was carrying a boy….sometimes you just know. We are totally over the moon with the news! To be honest like most new parents we would would have been happy with either, bringing a baby into this world is such a blessing and a privilege. We shared our news instantly with our family and friends, but we didn’t want to announce it on here straight the way as we wanted to enjoy it for ourselves in the first instance. Now that everyone knows, I’m all about shouting it from the roof tops…IT’S A BOY!
Alfie and I are the kind of couple that like to have a plan. About year or so ago (probably longer) we sat down and drew up 5 five-year plan which included starting a family. We are traditionalists at heart and wanted to be married first, enjoy a year as a married couple and see in our first wedding anniversary whilst on our honeymoon and were happy if children came after all that. Granted, we didn’t expect that I would fall pregnant so quickly, but we were so chuffed when we found out – it’s our dreams come true! Since we knew that we wanted to have a family we picked out our boy and girl names ages ago. We have been dying to call our baby by their actual name and now we can. We are keeping our little boy’s name a secret, family included, there has to be some surprises in all of this of course.
After the scan I went and bought a few celebratory bits for the little one whilst Alfie went back to work:

Chino’s, t-shirt and cardigan in 3-6 months all from Next
I think that this little outfit is adorable. The cardigan is exactly like something Alfie has already, so I though it was really cute, love the toggle buttons. Also, Alfie wears chinos a lot so picked up a pair of those too – like father like son…ha! Shopping for the baby is something that we wanted to do together, Alfie had bank holiday Monday off so we made a bit of a day of it and went on a shopping spree for the baby. We went a bit wild and actually got more than we anticipated. Here’s some of my favourites from my baby boys first shopping haul for this week’s Fashion Friday post:
Polo top, Gap//jumper, The White Company

Navy vest, H&M organic range//grey vest, GAP//wadded jacket, Debenhams (Junior J)

A is for awesome sleepsuit (set of 3), Next//cowboy sleepsuit, Cath Kidston
Alfie’s personal favourites are these cute Ralph Lauren bits that we got in 6-9 months so that they last longer. I think that I have mentioned on the blog how much of a fan he is of this preppy brand, his work colleagues even call him Ralphie instead of Alfie. It was kind of inevitable that our little boy would be in on the Ralph action too.
We do have a lot more stuff (that we have bought or have been gifted) and made sure that we got nearly everything in the sales and promotions, which was great thinking. Rather than shopping for one particular age range we spanned 0-12 months and have storage boxes for each age range. My plan is to keep the clothes that the baby is currently wearing out in his drawers, whilst the others are packed away waiting to be used just to keep things organised, well that’s the plan anyway. Thankfully we didn’t go completely mad and there are still things that we need to get, but we are going to wait a while so we don’t buy everything at once, although it is very tempting I can assure you. All I know is that this little boy is going to be one stylish dude!
You can watch my Pink or Blue Baby Haul vlog that I recorded earlier this week below:
I seem to be on a bit of a roll with vlogs at the moment, really enjoying them again. =)
Meeting our lil’ man later this year is going to be such an exciting and special time and I’m definitely enjoying every minute of this amazing journey.
How did you celebrate finding out the gender of your baby? If you don’t have children, how did you friends or family celebrate the news?
