Last week, I was surprised to find that I had picked up some British strawberries in my weekly grocery shop. Since British strawberries are naturally sweet and in my opinion taste better than imported strawberries, I couldn’t wait to rip open the pack, prepare them and start snacking. Of course, I had to use them and share a strawberry recipe on the blog, which I can’t wait to serve to guests when we have our first BBQ. I just know that this chocolate covered strawberry sundae is going to go down a treat with our guests.
When the weather hot’s up there is nothing better than dining al fresco and inviting friends and family round for a BBQ. We normally serve grilled meats, fish, vegetable kebabs, plantains, salads and sweet potato wedges to keep our guests happy. To follow, a cool and refreshing dessert is much-needed and something fruity and vibrant usually does the trick.

A fruity and vibrant strawberry sundae dessert topped with chocolate covered strawberries - perfect to serve at BBQ's and all your upcoming summer parties.
- 150 g resh strawberries halved
- 2 tbsp water
- 1-3 tsp maple syrup
- Handful of strawberries
- 50 g good quality chocolate
- 4 scoops yoomoo strawberry frozen yogurt
- Optional extras: whipped cream, chopped hazelnuts
-
In a saucepan, on a low heat stir together the strawberries, water, and maple syrup
-
Cook until the strawberries have softened and released their juices (approx. 5-8 minutes). Allow the sauce to cool.
-
Break the chocolate into chunks and heat in the microwave for 30 seconds. Stir to melt the rest of the chocolate.
-
Add another scoop of frozen yogurt to each sundae and top again with more strawberry sauce.
-
Go crazy on the toppings, including the chocolate covered strawberries.
Double up the ingredients to make for more guests.
I’m excited to announce that I’m now working with yoomoo as part of their fabulous campaign, which encourages women to be the best version of you in all aspects of life. This includes creating food that tastes delicious and makes them feel good.
To tell you a bit more about yoomoo, they are the number one brand of frozen yogurt in the UK and available in all major supermarkets and something that I love to have stashed away in my freezer. Out of the flavours, (strawberry, cherry, vanilla and the new honey & granola) strawberry always wins for me, which is why I made it a key component in this perfect BBQ dessert. In their range, they also produce the yoomoo frozen yogurt lollies, which would be a fantastic idea to hand out at a BBQ, they come in some amazing bright fruity colours.
Not only do they taste delicious on their own, you can use them as an accompaniment to so many desserts or simply top them with some delicious chopped fruit and berries, which is how I enjoy them the most. Frozen yogurt is a lovely alternative to ice cream and yoomoo is lower in fat and calories too.
British strawberry season will soon be upon us and with Wimbledon coming up too in the next few months, BBQ or not, I think this chocolate covered strawberry sundae would be a great addition to any summer celebration.

What’s your favourite summer dessert? Have you had your first BBQ of the year yet?

That looks pretty flipping amazing!
Thanks so much! 🙂
Chocolate covered strawberries in a Sundae look so tasty! This is a great indulgent desert that is fairly guilt free as long as the yoghurt is natural. Adding some nuts and extra raspberries would top this off perfectly, thanks for sharing.
You’re welcome. The toppings are just as important and nuts and raspberries would work a treat.
This was fab! What a perfect pudding for a BBQ x
I LOVE frozen yogurt. The Yoomoo is so good as well. This looks totally scrumptious.
Thanks Anna! 🙂
oOooh this strawberry sundae is absolutely gorgeous. It really would be perfect at the end of a BBQ.
Lovely! My favourite fruit are strawberries. I actually cleaned our BBQ over the weekend. It’s still a bit chilly at the moment but hopefully we’ll have our first soon!
I haven’t spotted yoomoo yet but will keep my eyes peeled. I also picked up some Scottish berries last week and they tasted oh so good. Much better than imports.
Their products are normally located next to the regular ice cream. I love strawberry season, yum!
These photographs have me itching for outdoor meals and strawberries. Can’t wait. And chocolate covered strawberries are just the best. Beautiful photos.
I ‘ve not heard of yoomoo before, so will look out for them.
Thanks, Choclette. The sun is shining now and I’m feeling very much the same.
