This fluffy marmalade chocolate marble cake is full of Seville orange citrus flavour combined with rich chocolate and vanilla sponge, perfect for an afternoon treat with tea or coffee.
Bundt cakes are a soft spot of mine, they’re incredibly easy to make but always come out looking like you’ve made a massive effort because of the beautiful fluted tin. Also, check out my Gluten Free Lemon Bundt Cake and Gingerbread Bundt Cake.
I was going to bake this marble cake in a loaf tin until my bundt cake tin practically fell into my hands – maybe it was meant to be! Cakes are always lovely shared over tea or coffee, especially in the afternoon. There’s always something nice about cake in the afternoon for some reason, it feels more like a treat or a special occasion.
Now by no means is this cake healthy, it’s made with butter, sugar and regular flour. Healthier alternatives are fantastic, but sometimes you just need the real thing to hit the spot and tame those sweet cravings. This does exactly that for me and my family loved it too. My mum came over one day last week to visit and it was so nice to have something to offer her that I’d made myself. She really enjoyed it and the marmalade and chocolate combination; it’s such a classic.

This fluffy marmalade chocolate marble cake is full of Seville orange citrus flavour combined with rich chocolate and vanilla sponge, perfect for an afternoon treat with tea or coffee.
- 300g g plain flour
- 250 g granulated sugar
- 120 g milk or dark chocolate (melted)
- 50 g butter
- 4 tbsp La Vieja Fabrica Marmalade
- 3 large eggs
- 3 tbsp natural yoghurt
- 3 tbsp rapeseed oil
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
-
Preheat the oven to 150 degrees and grease the bundt tin using a cooking or cake release spray.
-
In a large bowl, beat together the sugar and butter until light and fluffy. Next beat in the eggs one at a time before adding the natural yoghurt, rapeseed oil, and vanilla extract.
-
Sieve in the flour and baking powder. Mix together with a wooden spoon or spatula until all the flour is combined.
-
Next, melt the chocolate over a bain-marie or in the microwave and allow it to cool slightly. Pour half of the cake batter into the chocolate and mix together quickly.
-
Transfer some fo the vanilla cake mix into the bundt tin and alternate this with the chocolate cake batter and marmalade. Repeat until everything has been used up. Swirl the batter using a fork or a spoon to create the marbling effect.
-
Bake for 50-60 minutes or until golden and a skewer comes out clean when inserted into the cake.
-
Leave to stand for 20 minutes until removing from the tin and allow to cool.
La Vieja Fabrica make marmalade, which is made from native Seville oranges. They have 2 varieties, traditional and the thick cut which are both bitter and sweet. Either type works in this marble cake and I love how it seeps through to the very top of the cake to create a sticky orange sauce.
The interesting thing about this cake is that you never know what you’re going to get until you cut it open. The marmalade and chocolate make such pretty patterns on the inside of the cake. For a different texture, rather than blending the marmalade into the cake batter, I kept it whole so throughout the cake you get a real mix of orange, chocolate, and vanilla. I think the citrus flavour comes through better this way too.
Have you baked with Marmalade before? What’s your afternoon tea treat?
