Breakfast is the best meal of the day for me. It really kick starts my morning and I feel so much better when I have fuelled my body will something wholesome and nourishing to help me ease into a busy day. As you can imagine, breakfast time with a toddler can be chaotic sometimes, but these cinnamon eggy crumpets topped with an easy berry sauce are quick to make and super delicious.
We just love crumpets in our house and usually have them simply topped with butter and maybe some honey. However, when making crumpets last weekend we fancied something a bit more indulgent like French toast, but alas we were out of bread. Crumpets make a great alternative to bread when making French toast because they are fantastic at soaking up the eggy mixture.

- 4 Newburn Bakehouse by Warburtons crumpets
- 2 eggs
- 250 ml almond milk or milk of your choice
- 1-2 tbsp pure maple syrup
- 1 tbsp cinnamon
- 200 g frozen mixed berries
- 2 tbsp water
- 1-2 tbsp maple syrup
-
Mix all of the ingredients together in a large bowl and soak the crumpets in the eggy mixture. Allow to stand for 5 minutes.
-
Heat a little oil in a frying pan and cook the crumpets on either side until golden brown.
-
While the crumpets are soaking, pour all of the berry sauce ingredients in a bowl and cook in the microwave for 2-3 minutes.
-
The berries should be warm and tender. Add more maple syrup if required for more sweetness.
A leisurely breakfast or brunch at the weekend is a must and these really hit the spot. I used crumpets from Newburn Bakehouse by Warburtons, which are gluten-free, wheat free and milk free; perfect for anyone with any allergies!
Personally, I couldn’t taste any difference between the Newburn Bakehouse gluten-free crumpets and regular crumpets. These are great because it means that any suffering with coeliac disease or with a gluten sensitivity doesn’t have to miss out enjoying a traditional breakfast treat. The crumpets will join Newburn Bakehouse by Warburtons’ extensive ‘Free From’ range including loaves, handcrafted Artisan boules, rolls, wraps and sandwich thins.
You could basically top these eggy crumpets with anything, but our favourite way to serve them is this easy berry sauce that only contains 3 ingredients. It’s full of lots of delicious berries and you can be in control of the sugar content making it healthier than any shop bought versions. The best thing is that this speedy sauce can be made in the microwave, what’s not to love!
What toppings do you like to serve with your crumpets? Do you have a favourite weekend breakfast?

I love the idea of using crumpets as the base for french toast!!! Can’t wait to try these with the kids!
Thanks Claire. I hope your little ones like them. 🙂
These look great, although i think i would have to leave the cinnamon out as I’m not a fan of the taste x
Yes, you could totally leave the cinnamon out, but I’m a bit obsessed with it.
Omg this breakfast looks so tasty! I’ve never had crumpets before, but they look similar to pancakes, so I’m sure they taste amazing!
Thank you! Yes, crumpets do have that same brunchy/special breakfast vibe that pancakes have.
This looks gorgeous! i love anything cinamon as it reminds me of lush holidays to FLorida! they put it on everything!
Ha! You sound like a cinnamon queen like me then. I love it!
I’m not a huge crumpet fan but I think that’s because my mum used to give them to me with melted cheese on top and it kind of scarred me for life (I hate cheese on toast). This sounds delicious though!
Would never ever think to put melted cheese on top of crumpets, but perhaps that’s because I’ve got a real sweet tooth.
That is some kind of Queen to save! 😛 I love the way you distribute the food. Looking so delicious.
Thanks Michelle! 🙂
This is such a fantastic idea, I wouldn’t have thought of using crumpets to make french toast but it sounds so delicious. The sauce you have topped them with looks wonderful as well x
Thanks Sarah! I think it makes a nice change to use them link this and they are such great sponges at soaking up flavour.
This is such a fun idea, using crumpets instead of toast! I’ve not tried these ones before so will have to seek them out for a delicious breakfast!
Thanks Ceri! I couldn’t tell the difference between these gluten free ones and normal ones.
I usually just toast them plain – a good idea to try something different.
Yes, it’s nice to use them differently.
I’m vegan but I can imagine these are yummy. I love it when the toppings get into all of the holes of the crumpets!! This is so inventive.
Thanks, yes they’re like sponges so soak up all that flavour.
I adore crumpets and this cinnamon version could easily be in my to make right now because I am hungry.com omggggg. This looks divine x

I really like the sound of eggy crumpets! And with cinnamon too!
They look so delicious. All your food is always so bright and colorful and happy. It is quite hard to find all ingredients at my place but I can’t wait to do them for my kids. That will be a sweet breakfast!
This sounds delicious! Much more exciting than just butter which is what I usually top them with.
We have eggy bread all the time but I have never thought to use crumpets before! This looks too good not to try out so I will be doing it soon x
We love eggy bread with sugar, so this is a great alternative…going to try it tomorrow morning! Xx
I’m not really a fan of crumpets on their own so it would be interesting to see the difference with something on it, never really thought about it!

Even you explained very clearly but it is quite hard to have all the ingredients where I live, and it will be very expensive to buy it abroad. What can I do now??? T.T
I’m quite boring with my crumpets and just go for a slavering of butter, but as a big fan of Eggy bread the thought of Eddy Crumpets sounds amazing. Have got to try this out
