unofficial Father's day

Now that we have a little on the way we are blessed that we are able to celebrate special events like Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.  If you remember for Mother’s Day Alfie treated my mum and I to a spa day at Stapleford Park, so it was only right that I treated him to something special in return for his first Father’s Day.  Although technically it’s not really his first as our baby boy isn’t due until September, so we are calling it his Unofficial Father’s Day instead.

Amongst multiple components I think one of the key things that has helped bind mine and Alfie’s relationship is that we have very different interests, but we also share some common threads too.  For example, we both love going to the theatre and spending time in London.  Shockingly, for a couple that love to see shows the last time we went to the theatre was to see Phantom of the Opera for my 25th birthday, this year I turned 28!

A last-minute decision was made and we decided to see War Horse instead of The Book of Mormon, which had sold out.  We stayed at a beautiful hotel located in North London.  It did involve a 20 minute tube ride to Covent Garden where the theatre was based, but was so worth it as our hotel room was lovely.

Starter 1

Sadly we were running late for dinner, but were really hungry so concocted the plan of having our starter before the show and the rest of our meal afterwards, which worked really well.  We headed to The Real Greek in Covent Garden where I had the salted cod to start and Alfie had the falafel, both tasted amazing!

If you haven’t seen War Horse already then I highly recommend it.  The show was amazing and so brilliantly well acted, the puppetry for the life-size horses was fab!

dinner 1

After the show, as planned we headed back to The Real Greek to finish dinner.  It was actually quite late so we ordered a small selection of food to share between us, such as the Greek Salad, fries and pork dish.  We also had baked aubergines in a tomato sauce and lamb skewers too:

With our bellies satisfied and well stuffed we headed back to the hotel, just in time to catch the second half of the England game on TV, sadly they didn’t win the match.

The next morning after breakfast and after Alfie had opened his gifts we headed into central London to do a bit of shopping, which included stopping off at the Hummingbird Bakery for our favourite red velvet cupcakes, treating the bambino to some cute clothes from Zara and afternoon tea at Harrods:

macaroons

Wow, these pink macaroons were to die for!

Alfie had a wonderful weekend, actually we both did!  For some reason Father’s Day seems to be so overlooked in comparison to Mother’s Day, I’m not sure why.  It’s something that we will definitely be making a big deal of in our house forever more.

What did you get up to for Father’s Day?  Do you like going to the theatre?
