The second part of our honeymoon was the polar opposite to the first half in Sri Lanka. I gave you a recap of our goings on in Sri Lanka last week and it was very activity based with lots of exploring and experiencing the culture. We love city breaks and looking around new places, but we were also after a bit of relaxation too, hence how we ended up in the epitome of honeymoon paradise, the Maldives.
We flew from Sri Lanka to Male, the capital island of the Maldives and then took a sea plane to our chosen island Thudafushi. It was quite a bumpy ride in that sea plane, but we landed safely on the water and a Donnie boat took us to the island.
The island possesses 75 bungalows, which includes a mix of beach bungalows and water villas. Since it was our honeymoon we wanted to spoil ourselves so we opted for the beautiful luxury of the water villa. Absolutely the best decision ever…it was just incredible!
On our arrival we were greeted with a champagne cocktail, which went down like a treat after the shaky sea plane ride. Our water villa was just stunning, all white walls and tranquil calm. They even provided us with an iMac, which I thought was fantastic and has rapidly shot it itself to the top of my wish list.
I was practically straight into my bikini to sun bathe on the terrace outside. We had a gorgeous view of the islands lagoon and Indian Ocean:
The terrace became our favourite and only place where we had breakfast. With the Indian Ocean right beneath you and the morning sunshine, it was hard to persuade any one of us to dine in the over water restaurant designated for the water villa guests.
Most mornings we went for a jog around the island which literally took 10 minutes as it was so small, so we always went around twice. We discovered a fondness for snorkeling after hiring snorkeling equipment from the resort. We had steps leading into the sea from our villa from which we could explore the underworld in all its glory at our own leisure.
The coral and all of the tropical fish were beautiful. It was quite daunting going out in the open water at first, but we both soon got the hang of it:
Everytime we walked on the jetty we couldn’t help but look into the water to see what sea life we could spot. We saw everything from seabass, sting rays, turtles and even baby sharks:
One evening we headed out on a sunset fishing excursion. I’ve never been fishing before so I was intrigued to see what the deep blue sea had to offer. We went hand line fishing with 2 other couples and had quite a successful trip.
Alfie managed to catch a fish…I think it’s called a jack fish:
Six fish were caught in the end and the chef’s cooked our catch the next day for us so that we could have them for lunch. In fact I think I probably ate my body weight in sea food out there in paradise. All of the fish was so fresh that it was hard to say no.
Lunch and dinner were served in the over water restaurant and both occasions involved four courses of fine dining. The food was stunning, but you can imagine that by the end of the week I was happy to go back to my single course meals.
We were lucky enough to have the chance to visit a near by fishermen’s island on a boat trip. It was interesting to get a small insight into Maldivian life.
Well what more can I say about this trip, no words can describe how incredibly beautiful Thudafushi is, our paradise found.
Looking over these holiday snaps and even writing this post has reminded me how blessed I am to have visited two beautiful destinations for our honeymoon. It was definitely a trip of a life time and one that we are sure never to forget. Seriously, our next holiday really has something to live up to as looking ahead I don’t think anything could top this.

That water is just so clear, and it just sounds so relaxing.
I think the place I would call paradise would be Hawaii- I can see why people choose that as a holiday destination as there was so much to see and do, but it also had such a chilled out atmosphere. But any holiday is amazing in my book!
I bet Hawaii is lovely and as you say it has a nice mix of activities and that paradise aspect too.

Wow, that post made me turn into the green eyes monster! Particularly as it is getting cold and dark now I am craving a holiday somewhere warm and sunny! I wouldnt say I have been on the holiday of a life time yet. The most ‘different’ holiday I have been on so far is probably Morroco. I went to Cyprus a couple of years ago- I wasn’t that taken with the actual place itself but the villa we stayed in was lovely, I could have spent the whole week in it just mooching round our private pool and looking at the view we had.
I would love to go to the Maldives, Australia and Mexico in the future,
I really want to go to Australia too. It’s one if those countries that you really don’t hear that much about, it sounds intriguing to me.

This sounds heavenly! I would love to visit the Maldives. I watched an amazing doc on Netflix called the Island President, and it was about the President of the Maldives trying to make the world stand up and do something about climate change, it’s so sad to think that if we continue the way we are places like the Maldives won’t even exist.
