Hmm…I don’t know where to start with this week; it’s just been full of highs and lows. A few days ago I found out that I was being made redundant from my job, which surprisingly didn’t fill me with dread. I’m a firm believer in being positive; definitely a glass is half full kind of girl. Things happen for a reason and perhaps I’m about to be put on the right path in life.
My new favourite tea!
You can always find comfort in a mug of warm tea and I love the name! The name is actually quite apt for how I’m feeling about my current situation. Despite the instability that redundancy brings I’m actually looking forward to leaving the stop-gap job that I had slowly began to hate and intrigued to find out what’s in store for me next. I have a few ideas up my sleeves and this little episode is may be just the push that I have been waiting for.
Never more has this saying rang true!
Anyways, I’m feeling super positive right now and actually life is good! Forgetting the little bump in the road, this week has been pretty good!
My workouts this week went like this:
Monday: 10 minutes of HIITs on the treadmill and cross trainer, upper body workout, 5 minutes on the bike.
Tuesday: REST
Wednesday: Tara Stiles: Yoga Weight Loss & Balance Workout
Thursday: 2 mile outdoor run, lower body workout in the gym, 5 minutes on the bike.
Friday: Yoga for runners podcast
Saturday: REST
Sunday: walking, short yoga routine and gardening.
Even though the temperatures have been a little bit warmer I’ve still been enjoying warm oats every now and then for breakfast.
I made plain oats with water and almond milk for creaminess and topped them with chopped strawberries, drippy almond butter and coconut cream. OMG! This was divine; everything is about coconut cream for me right now.
Huge socca pancakes as big as my head have featured heavily this week at breakfast. This one for example was stuffed with a chopped apple, almond butter and chia seeds. Loved this!
Obviously smoothies were not too far from my lips either!
This week I’ve also been enjoying more wonderful salads:
Curly lettuce leaves, beets, tomatoes, grated carrot and goats cheese.
Curly lettuce leaves, red peppers, mackerel, olives and tomatoes.
I’m really enjoying my veggies at the moment as a part of raw/semi raw meals.
My favourite snack of the week award goes to…
This banana topped with almond butter and cacao nibs with figs drizzled with maple syrup. I was in heaven whilst eating this, yum!
The night I made a lovely lamb and lamb liver stew with okra and peppers. It was a bit too spicy for my taste buds, but Alfie seemed to cope just fine. Maybe I just need to man up where my chilli heat threshold I concerned. I had mine with carrots, broccoli and plantain.
Given my previous insecurity issues about my abilities to succeed I haven’t let this redundancy issue phase me much at all. I think a lot of that has to do with the excitement of applying to jobs that I know I will enjoy and suit my qualifications more. Also, I’m in a much better place then I was before and feeling super positive…
…onwards and upwards!!! =)
Have you been through redundancy before? How did you feel/cope?

Sorry to hear about your redundancy Jemma, but with your brilliant posiive attitude I’m sure a better job is just around the corner x
Thanks hun! I really hope so! x
I’m so sorry to hear about your job, but your positive attitude will get you everywhere! I’m sure this is just a stepping stone to bigger and better things! That tea sounds divine – I love Clipper! I’m not going to lie, I’m usually a half empty kind of girl, but I’m trying really hard to change that! x
That tea is such an usual mix of flavours but it really is lovely!
Sorry to hear about your job. I’m a firm believer that everything happen for a reason so I’m sure you are on your way to better times and you will eventually get to where you want to be 😀
Thanks Lauren, I really hope so!
Sorry to hear about your job. A few years ago Andy was made redundant as his company was taken over by another one. It was tough but he found some temporary work for some of the time, and then found a great job for a small company which he really enjoys, so it worked out really well in the end. Think positive 🙂
I love how everyone has found their perfect jobs after being made redundant. It fills me with so much hope! 🙂
Sorry to hear about your job, but it sounds like its coming at exactly the right time for you, sometimes all we need is a little push! I think I will have to recreate that banana, cocoa nibs and fig combo, I keep meaning to add cocoa nibs to my nut butter combos, but I keep forgetting, I need to dig them out of the back of teh cupboard!
I think you will love the cacao nibs with the nut butters they add a lovely bitter note and crunch. 🙂
Sorry to hear about your job Jemma, but I’m loving the positive outlook you’re having! Sounds like it’s given you the push you needed to find something better and more suited to you. I’ll keep everything crossed you find something soon. As an aside, your meals looks delicious! xx
Thank you Laura. It has definitely given me a much needed push in the right direction. x
I’m so sorry to hear about your job Jemma – it’s more than likely economic circumstances and absolutely no reflection on you or your abilities at all.
I’m a cup half empty person for sure – I take everything personally and am very easily upset and depressed. Good to see you have a better attitude and can see the silver linings.
xxx
It can be hard to see a positive in a negative at the best of times, but in this case its pretty much a no brainer as I was beginning to get frustrated about the fact that I’m not working in a job that I really want. All things happen for a reason and I’m hoping that now is the right time for me. 🙂
Oh no I’m sorry about your job 🙁 That really sucks. But it sounds like you’re in a great positive place! Ben, my hubby, was made redundant a few years ago and it really knocked him. But you just have to look to the future and stay positive. I’m sure you have a lot to offer, like your PhD!
Love the sound of your last meal, I do love a spicey meals occasionally.
It does suck, but I am really excited about the future and my next career move. 🙂
I just want to tell you that I like your attitude, since many people before you were also on a job that wasn’t for them since they were destined to make something bigger with their capacities, sometimes is difficult find that path, however you should never give up on your quest since in the world there will be one thing that only you can do right, as how it happens with all of us in this world, I really hope you find it, however since you are looking this change in your life with optimism, you are just halfway far from finding your path.
By the way, thanks for the delicious advices on healthy food.
Thank you! I think you are being positive about these things really helps.
Redundancy came and got me towards the end of 2011, and career wise it was the best thing that could have happened to me! I’m glad you’re being so positive and often the best things come out of these types of situations. Good luck! x
Thanks Alex! I think it has come at the right time for me strangely enough. I’m definitely in a transitional phase right now career wise. I’m so happy that things worked out for you. x
Oh I’m so sorry to hear that, but you have absolutely the right attitude to it! I was actually technically made redundant at the end of March, I have 3 months full time on a temp contract and then I go part time, its scary but exciting! I think if you have the right attitude you can turn it into a positive thing 🙂
I know what you mean the thought of it is scary, but thinking about the future prospects is very exciting! Hope everything turns out well for you! 🙂
