Dairy Milk’s fruit and nut chocolate was one of my favourite chocolate bars when I was younger.
My mum would buy me and brother a bar each to share pretty much every Saturday for a time, so we could all sit down and watch a movie with our favourite munchies. Nowadays, my movie snacks have somewhat transformed. Don’t get me wrong, I still love the fruit and nut chocolate bar from my childhood, but it’s much too sweet for my taste buds as I prefer the bitterness and richness of dark chocolate.
In recent years I’ve really got on board with raw chocolate. There are so many brands on the market now in the UK, some better than others in my opinion. Despite the fact that raw chocolate has become more accessible in some areas, the bars can be pricey and I do like to make my homemade raw chocolates to add to my stash. Surprisingly raw chocolate is incredibly easy to make, take my Raw Chocolate and Salted Caramel Hearts, for example, both delicious and prepared in a flash. After how well my first real foray into the homemade raw chocolate world went, I decided to indulge my taste buds again and recreate a healthier version of my childhood favourite.

- 1 cup melted coconut oil
- 1/2 cup raw cacao powder (or use cocoa powder)
- 2-3 tbsps coconut flower nectar (or agave nectar)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp dried blueberries
- 2 tbsp hazelnuts
- pinch of salt
-
Stir in the cacao powder, vanilla extract and coconut flower nectar into the the melted coconut oil until well blended. Add in the dried blueberries, hazelnuts, salt and mix through. Transfer the mixture into 5-8 cupcake cases, depending how large they are. Place in the fridge and allow to set for 2 hours or more before devouring.
I think the photographs depict how tasty these raw chocolate treats are without me having to explain…
I had two attempts at making these, the first try as one whole slab of raw chocolate. I didn’t find that the chocolate set that well and the consistency was incorrect this way. However, using cupcake paper cases really works like a dream and you get a lovely buttery texture from the chocolate. Raw chocolate is great for dairy-free diets and there is the added healthy boost of all of those wonderful antioxidants which can help boost your immunity and fight nasty free-radicals.
Like most of my recipes, these are easily adaptable and can be changed up depending on your personal preferences. If you can’t get your hands on dried blueberries then use raisins or even sultanas. I think these would also work with salted almonds or candied walnuts for a completely different flavour. Either way, you can really go to town with this very simple recipe and make them your own. Happy chocolate making!
What were your favourite movie snacks when you were younger? Do you have a favourite chocolate flavour combination?

I love the look of these! My favourite movie snack is hard to decide on. Chocolate flavour though, I love salted caramel!
Salted caramel is one of my favourites too. 🙂
I have always wanted to know how to make chocolate at home, thanks for this super recipe I love the photos too.
Well now you know how to make raw chocolate, it’s so easy!
These look gorgeous Jemma, great recipe!
Thanks Elisa! 🙂
Its been nearly three years since I made (or ate) raw chocolate. Its one of the easiest and most delicious processes ever and I can’t understand why raw chocolate isn’t more popular than dairy chocolate, its melt-in-your-mouth delicious!
Same here and it’s so easy to make too, definitely underrated!
Yum, these look delicious!
Thanks Lauren! 🙂
Another great recipe! Love the look of these and will definitely be trying them out!
I hope you enjoy them Dana! 🙂
I love chocolate and mint together. And chocolate and sea salt.
I hated Dairy Milk Fruit & Nut as a child as I hated nuts. But now I love them! It’s funny how things change. I’ve yet to get on board with the whole raw chocolate thing but these do sound lovely.
Oh I think that you would love it, some brands are better than others though! 🙂
Holy yum! I always remember my parents eating that, I was far more of a Galaxy girl (up until a year ago!) but now I find it super sweet.
Nowadays (!) dark chocolate with ginger is a favourite (hello Green & Blacks) 😀 shall have to give these a try when I’m home!!
Green and Blacks have such a fab range of flavours and it’s organic too! 🙂
This looks SO GOOD.
Thanks Lara!
Yummmm! I’m definitely going to try this! Would it be totally crazy to put fresh berries in it?
Yum!!!! 🙂

YUM! But is raw chocolate better for you than other chocolate?
Much better and full of anti-oxidants!
Oh, that’s my favorite chocolate candy bar, as well! This might be fun to try! Thanks for sharing this recipe! <3
Great minds think a like! 🙂

Thanks Ashley, hope you like them!
I am all about non-dark chocolate lol don’t know why but can’t stand the taste. That recipe looks lovely x
Hehehe! Thank you! 🙂
These look great! I love coconut, mint or salt with chocolate : )
Same here, they work so well. 🙂
Mmmm these look wonderful. I love most chocolate combos, but nutty pralines are probably my favourite. I bet salted almonds and something sweet like dried cherries would be good.
Mmm…I love the sound of salted almonds and dried cherries together.
Oh my gosh those look delicious! Pinned!
Thank you! 🙂
This looks like the perfect healthy snack that will satisfy my chocolate cravings. Thank you for sharing! 🙂
Your welcome, and it’s much healthier than regular chocolate. 🙂
These look absolutely amazing!
Thank you!
When I was young I loved junior mints!
They sound delicious, love mint flavourings!
Yum! Saving this recipe!
I’m still a sucker for chocolate with peanut butter. When I was in elementary school, they sold these ‘peanut butter things’ (that’s actually what they were called), that was basically just a slab of refrigerated peanut butter with chocolate on top. So simple, so cheap, but SO good!
Chocolate and PB is a match made in heaven!
wow this looks incredible! great photography!
Thanks Kelsey, I’ve been really working on my photography recently!
I love making my own raw chocolate. It is so creamy and delicious.
I’m not a chocolate person really, but I’m intrigued with this, I’d be totally willing to try it!
These look great!
When I was younger my Nan used to give prizes out at the local whistdrive which she ran every Friday evening. One of the prizes was always one of the massive bars of Dairy Milk, but occasionally in the warmer months the chocolate would melt out of shape before the evening event. And then she would pop it into the fridge to present to me and my Brother when we were next round. Sometimes I’m pretty sure she left it out in the sun on purpose!
These look very yummy! I feel like I would be too impatient to make them though. I’m a terrible cook and baker for that reason alone. Ha.
