Wednesday saw me turn another year older and even though I’m now one year away from 30 I’m not feeling as depressed as I thought I would. When I was 21, turning 30 sounded like the worst thing EVER, the end of the world! How melodramatic was I? Actually, right now I couldn’t be happier with my life as I think I’ve achieved so much and have a lot to be thankful for that there is no reason to feel sad about getting older. I celebrated turning 29 with a big fat wedge of birthday cake, just like all birthday’s should be celebrated.
My breakfasts this week have been influenced by the lighter sunny mornings we have had. This lovely breakfast was a great start to my Sunday last week and included full-fat Greek yoghurt, blackberries, avocado, pumpkin seeds, almonds and honey
I had a little extra time in the morning on Friday and fancied a smoothie in a bowl for breakfast. I blended up spinach, banana, lucuma powder, coconut oil, unsweetened almond milk and vanilla protein powder topping it with Chocshot and raw hazelnut butter.
My go-to green smoothie tends to be spinach, peanut butter, banana, vanilla protein powder and unsweetened almond milk, which never seems to disappoint. It’s so yummy!
This gorgeous salad was made up of leftover bits in the fridge before I did the weekly grocery shop. Spinach, chickpeas, edamame beans, spring onions and feta cheese, full of my favorite things.
For dinner this week I made a huge batch of chilli using organic mince beef. I made so much that there was plenty left over for lunch the next day before our grocery delivery arrived. I had some of the leftovers with some spinach, chickpeas, edamame beans and crumbled feta cheese.
Yesterday we had lunch at one of my new favourite places, The Milk Shed. It was Alfie’s first time there and he really liked the vibe and feel of the place. I had one of the specials from the board which was this grilled mackerel with toasted soda bread and rocket, yum! The we had some of their homemade ice cream to share. There were so many delicious flavours making it difficult to choose, but we eventually settled on salted caramel and honeycomb:
This quote really couldn’t sum up how I’m feeling about getting older any better…
I’ve had such a lovely birthday this year, made extra special by my baby boy. Alfie has given me some money towards the new DSLR that I’ve got my eyes on so I can’t wait to get my hands on that, my little man bought me some perfume and my mum gave me some money to treat myself. After more than 2 years of having my iPhone I went and smashed the screen on my birthday (such bad luck!) so as a birthday treat to myself I went and got myself the latest iPhone 6 – I’m such an apple geek!
We’re going out for a fancy meal tonight for a dual celebration because it was our 10 year anniversary on Friday…time really does fly.
I can’t believe that it’s Easter next week. My healthy Easter chocolate giveaway ends later today so check it out if you haven’t already. You can enter here.
How do you feel about getting older? Did you feel nervous about approaching 30?

Happy belated birthday and congratulations on your 10 years together, I am yet to meet that lovely husband of yours maybe one day. Love your breakfasts they inspire me daily so keep sharing.
Thanks hun! You will have to come over for dinner one weekend so you can meet. 🙂
Thanks for the invite, I will sure do.
Happy belated birthday! I’ll be 28 this year so 30 is on the horizon but it definitely doesn’t seem as scary as when I was 21! x
Thanks! No, it’s not as scary as I thought it was going to be – nothing to worry about at all!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!
I’m turning 29 next month – I was dreading it (30 next year), but now I’m like meh because its my little mans 3rd birthday a few days before so it kind of over shadows it.
Glad you had a great day hun
Charlotte x
Thank you! Seriously, you have nothing to worry about. I hope you have one big celebration for it.
Happy birthday! I’m turning 29 at the end of the year and I’m actually looking forward to it. As your quote says, I’m not getting older, I’m getting better 🙂
Precisely, with age comes experience which makes us better and stronger.
I recently posted my thoughts on turning 30! 30 is awesome it gets bad PR but it really is awesome 🙂 happy belated birthday x
Thank you! It really isn’t as bad as it sounds. I’m loving it.
Happy birthday! Age is just a number as they say. And congrats on the 10years anniversary xxx
Thanks Laureen, that quote is so true. x
Glad you had a lovely birthday. I don’t think I was worried about turning 30- I celebrated by running a marathon!
Thanks! That’s a fantastic way to celebrate Maria!
Love the quote! Happy belated birthday! You are still young and I think you are doing so well. Also congratulations on your 10 year anniversary! Age is only a number isn’t it? They say.. I don’t feel or look my age so I am not really bothered about it that much, I will be more worried when I have wrinkles! 😀
Thanks Petra! Yeah, when I’m hitting the 60 mark I think I’ll start worrying then. 🙂
Wow. You make some really lovey looking food. I would love to try that banana smoothie. Happy Birthday as well. Sounds like you were spoiled. Enjoy the last year of your 20’s (but I think the 30’s are even better!)
Thanks Erin! I’m actually really looking forward to my 30s. I hear that they are meant to be pretty awesome. 🙂
Happy Birthday to you! 🙂 Aaah, to be turning 30 again! 40 is looming on the horizon for me (I’ll be 39 this year) and I am dreading it!
Thanks Elizabeth! 40 is still young in my book…enjoy it! 🙂
I have to admit that I found turning 30 very hard. I was just finishing up my PhD and felt nowhere near where I wanted to be in my life. Fast forward a few years and I can honestly say that my 30s are turning out to be my best decade yet.
I’m so glad that you have finally settled into your 30s and enjoying them Clementine. Stay in higher education can make us feel like we are missing out on life as it’s such a big commitment, but it’s worth it in the end.
You most certainly are getting better!
Aww thanks Aymie. 🙂
Happy Birthday! Since turning 30, I feel so much more comfortable in every aspect of my life.
I’ve got a feeling that my 30s are going to be great – great to hear that you’re enjoying yours.
Happy birthday 🙂 The meal at the restaurant looks divine as well and the ice cream choices are pretty much exactly what I would have chosen haha. But I doubt I could have shared 😉
Thank you Anna! It was hard to share the ice cream I must admit, too yummy!
Jemma! Happy belated Birthday! and on your 10 years together – that’s all big in your life! Loved your smoothie and other recipes – thank you! 🙂
Thanks Donna! Glad that you enjoyed my recipes this week.
Love your recipes. I’ll will turn 30 in 2 years and I have to admit I’m a bit scared to hit the big milestone
You’ve got nothing to worry about at all. 🙂
happy 29th!! i get excited about turning older because it means im that much more wiser. sometimes i get worried like i havent done enough or something but i try to look at the bright side 😉
I think there is so much fear in getting older, but I have only felt the positives of it so far. 🙂
Happy birthday, lovely! I’m sure you had a fantastic time. xx
I really did, thank you!
Happy if a little belated birthday. And you’re right birthdays are meant to be celebrated with a huge piece of cake.
