Happy Sunday! I hope you’re all enjoying this beautiful day. We’re finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel in our new house and we have worked hard to unpack as many boxes as we can as quickly as we can. I was amazed by how many boxes we had to unpack and thankfully we have at least 12 more to sort through, which hopefully won’t take too long.
Our first move with a baby has been less chaotic than I thought it would have been, but that may have been down to our amazing team of removers who were fantastic. Now that most of the boxes have been unpacked we can start on the fun stuff, making the house our home. We made a big furniture order last night that I’m very excited about! Lots of leftover birthday cake has got me through the unpacking process, a lovely red velvet cake that I made myself.
What I’ve Been Eating This Week
We only have an under the counter fridge at the moment and looking to invest in a new fridge freezer soon, so meal times have to be well planned so that the food doesn’t go off. Breakfasts are pretty easy to plan though and a plate of bacon, scrambled eggs cooked in coconut oil and half an avocado never gets old.
I don’t eat bread very often, but it’s been an easy option whilst getting to grips with everything. I’ve loved it topped with mashed avocado, grated cheese and tomatoes for breakfast and lunch.
Porridge is another easy option and I’ve eaten it a lot this week, mainly cooked with a mashed banana and topped with fruit like raspberries or figs with lots of coconut almond butter.
Unearthing my blender from all the boxes was quite the highlight (oh and the cutlery!) and I made my first smoothie in the new house. This was a mango and apple concoction with brazil nuts instead of my usual cashew nuts.
I’ve been eating lots of figs this week, for breakfast, dessert and for lunch on my salads. I really like them paired with grilled halloumi cheese, green lentils, mixed leaves and brazil nuts for something a bit different.
For snacks other than my stash of cookies and cream Quest bars (nom!) I’ve loved chopped apples and pears with peanut butter and Prutella by Muscle Food, simple and delicious!
I feel that we’re beginning to settle into our new home now and looking forward to exploring the area some more. We headed into Dorchester the other day to meet my friend for coffee and cake, which was nice. I think it helps to know that I’ve got a familiar friendly face close by. We have a pretty fun-filled day planned of swimming, a trip to the park, unpacking the last boxes (not so fun!), a run and relaxing afternoon on the sofa eating my favourite foods.

Congrats on the move! I love simple breakfasts like bacon and egg, so brilliantly classic.
I was lucky moving to London as I already knew so many people here so settling in was easy. Moving to Argentina on the other hand was a lot trickier! I worked really hard the first month or so there to go out on my own and meet people, going to events and joining classes etc and just trying to talk to strangers! Tricky but worth it in the long run 🙂
Thanks Pip! I definitely want to put myself out there, so to speak and make an effort to develop some friendships. Thankfully, having a baby seems to really help in this department. I bet moving to a completely new country was daunting!
It takes a while to settle into a new home. Have you met your neighbours yet? My favourite breakfast is porridge or toast with jam.
It really does, but our neighbours have been really warm and welcoming which is lovely.
Good luck settling in to your new home. Think of the fun you are going to have personalising it.
I know, it’s the best bit!
I’m very impressed! We’ve been in our current home for 15 years but I’m sure w lived off ready meals and take out for weeks.
Ha! We were really keen to get the bulk of it sorted as soon as possible.
Hope the rest of the unpacking isn’t too bad!
Me too Maria, thanks!
Glad all is going well with your move! As we plan on doing so much work to our house we still haven’t unpacked all the boxes yet, despite moving back at the end of July! I can’t wait to finally have all of our DVDs and books out of the boxes in the garage!
We only moved a couple of roads away this time so already knew quite a few people in the area. I couldn’t imagine moving with a baby though. It was enough work organising the two of us!
Having everything still packed will make the renovations run move smoothly though, even though I would find it hard living out of boxes. How exciting, I bet you can’t wait to start!
I’ve never had grilled halloumi but I definitely need to give it a go– yours looks amazing!
It’s amazing and definitely worth a try!
I am glad that the move is going well and it was easier than you thought it would be.
I got sent a couple of jars of that prutella, but I haven’t tried it yet. Maybe I will give it a go today!
I don’t think the Prutella will appeal to everyone, but I rather like it! Let me know what you think.
Ahh how exciting. I can’t wait till I’m moved in and can start thinking about decorating and buying furniture.
That cake looks fantastic! I think red velvet is one of my favourites.
Congrats on your new house! I’m moving house on Thursday! We only have a few days to settle before we get married!! But after that it’s smooth sailing until Christmas so I’m looking forward to November to being able to organise until my hearts content.
Congratulations on the move – glad to know all went well. I’ve only really felt settled into our newish home recently as pregnancy overtook our move somewhat! The Prutella sounds very interesting. I miss eggs terribly so have some for me!
Moving is such an exhausting process, so well done you for managing to maintain healthy and balanced! Good luck with the rest of the unpacking, it’s quite exciting settling into a new home as you can play about with what you already have and give it all a new spin!
I didn’t quite feel at home until our sofa arrived – and oh boy that can take a long time to arrive! Sitting on a camp chair every day after a long day at work is not ideal….! The red velvet cake looks fantastic by the way!
She’s So Lucy
Glad that you are settling in OK. The frosting on that cake looks so yummy!
Honestly all of these foods look so nice! I’ll have to try some of them 🙂
