The real reason you keep saving things for best
Do you ever find yourself not opening your favourite bottle of perfume because it’s not the right occasion? Perhaps you’ve got this gorgeous dress hanging up in your wardrobe and you’re waiting for a special event to wear it?
Of course, I totally get the desire to want to save things for a certain time because they make you feel special, but I’d like to argue that you deserve to feel special every day of your life. You don’t have to wait around to light that candle or wear that lipstick because you’re saving it for best.
If you’re forever waiting for the perfect moment to do something, even if it’s opening up that bubble bath that you were gifted last Christmas, you’re perpetually putting your life on hold. And the thing is, life is now.
When you’re looking for an excuse or a reason to validate yourself the message that you’re projecting is that you’re not good enough. You’re repeatedly saying to yourself that you don’t deserve to feel special or to enjoy the things that bring you immense joy.
However, every day that you’re alive is a special occasion. I mean being a human is a special occasion and that deserves to be celebrated every single day.
Saving things for best comes from a place of scarcity because you believe that there isn’t enough to go around. This belief can be deeply rooted in our childhood when perhaps money was tight and things were difficult financially for our parents and it has stayed with us. It’s understandable that finances can come into why we want to save things for best, but sometimes we can use it as a way to self-sabotage our own happiness.

Deeply linked to this is also the need to feel worthy of the thing that you’ve been saving. The problem is there is never a right moment, only today and now and I want to take this opportunity to remind you that you are worthy in this moment.
The power lies within you to advocate for yourself and remind yourself of how deserving you are. I can assure you that you don’t need a special occasion in the future to prove how worthy you are or that you’re good enough.
There should never be any guilt associated with wanting to take care of yourself or doing something just for you, which is commonly felt by most, but more so if you’re a mum. Again, this idea that you have to earn doing something nice for yourself stems from a lack of self-worth and knowing your value. This hasn’t been helped by societal expectations and the reward culture that we live in that suggests that you only get a treat when you’ve been productive or experienced success.

I’d like to advocate that being a human is the perfect reason to take some time out for yourself or do something that you love. Plus, the ripple effect that self-care has is immense. When you do something for yourself and it makes you feel nourished, happy, and fulfilled, it’s not only you that benefits, but your loved ones too. When your cup is full you can take care of them with the overflow, rather than from a place of depletion.
You never earn the ability or the permission to be the best version of yourself and be happy. This is something that is born from the choices that you make and the aligned actions that you take to create your life. Rather than putting your life on hold until you feel like you’ve achieved enough or are deserving enough you have the freedom of self-empowerment and choice to live your life exactly how you want. You are entitled to seek happiness as a basic human right.
