Ok, so I admit it I’m the world’s worst suitcase packer.  It used to the be case (no pun intended!) that I would throw everything into my case, just for my mum to re-pack every thing in a more orderly manner.  Of course, now as a grown and married adult I don’t have that option anymore so it’s all on me.

Even though we are not going on our honeymoon until the end of the month, I’ve thought ahead and started to put piles together of clothes and other holiday paraphanelia that I’m going to take. So that the whole sitting on top of the suit case, trying to squash everything in scenario is avoided I’ve put together a couple of tips that I will be employing during the packing process.

Make a list

I’m a die-hard list maker.  They keep me organised and on track.  I’ve made lists for what to pack, last minute things to buy and a list of important travel items such as visas and passports that we need to take.  Hopefully nothing will be forgotten as it’s all been written down on a trusty list.

Forget the kitchen sink

There is a temptation when going away for more than few days to pack everything in your wardrobe, I’m guilty as charged on this one.  I have actually taken 7 pairs of shoes away before for a 10 day trip…excessive no? Be realistic and think through each day of your holiday so you know what to take.  It’s much better than breaking out a sweat when your suitcase is weighed at the airport in case it’s too heavy to go in the cargo hold.

Wear things more than once

This is really an extension of the last point and a way to reduce the amount that you pack. Think through each outfit and coordinate items, such as shorts etc., .so that they can be paired with a couple of other items in your suitcase.

Roll up, roll up

Someone gave my mum a great tip of rolling up our clothes to save space when packing.  Such a simple tip and I have been doing it ever since, it really works.

With these tips in mind I’m hoping that packing for our honeymoon is going to be stress free.  I’m hoping not to pack too much due to baggage restrictions on the sea plane leg of our journey.  Fingers crossed I don’t forget anything!

Are you good at packing for your trips away?  Do you have any packing tips to share?
