How to have a gentle start to 2023
Naturally, there’s lots of content flying around at the start of the new year about goal setting and how to have the best year yet. This is all well and good and can be very motivational, but what if you’re not in the goal-setting mood or have no idea how you’d like your next 365 days to look?
Over the past few years, I’ve taken a more gentle approach to ease myself into the new year. No rush. No hustle. Just a slowness that allows me to take my time and figure things out.
This approach may not be for everyone, but I wanted to share a few ideas and tools if it’s something that appeals to you to help you ease into the new year.
Set a word for the year
I’ve never been able to stick to a new years resolution and much prefer setting a word for the year to bring in more grounding and connection. It acts as an anchor and a guide throughout the year I want to create, allowing me to let go of everything else that isn’t aligned with my chosen word.
I shared my word for this year in this post.
Spend some time reflecting
At the start of the new year, we tend to focus on what’s to come quickly forgetting about what has just gone.
Giving yourself time to reflect on the previous year and what went well, what you want to leave behind and what changes you would like to make will ensure that you’ll move forward in the new year. Reflection is a powerful tool that we all have at our fingertips, bit isn’t something that we do regularly.
Visualise the life you want
Visulisation is a tool that I love to use with my 1:1 clients as part of my coaching practice. It’s another powerful tool that we have at our fingertips allowing your mind to explore how you’d like your life to look unapologetically. It allows your subconscious mind to wander into sometimes unchartered territories that you perhaps have never considered.
It’s an all-consuming experience that involves all the senses, allowing your brain to acknowledge how your future goals will look and feel.
It’s important to remember that you don’t have to have everything figured out today, tomorrow, or next week. You’re allowed to take your time. You can press pause and come back to it when you feel ready and in the right frame of mind.
Be gentle with yourself. Going slow can just be as powerful as diving right into the new year hustle vibes.
If you’re looking to immerse yourself in a gentle 90-minutes to create your vision for the new year I’m sharing my practical intention-setting tools in my The Year of YOU workshop. I created this workshop to help you to reconnect to yourself, reclaim your confidence, and rediscover your joy, so you can truly thrive in life, work, and motherhood.
