The sun has really been shining bright towards the end of this week in the UK. I’ve been taking advantage and had my legs out a couple of times with some pretty summery sandals. More often or not I tend to opt for pretty summer dresses, despite owning a couple of skirts. I’m not sure why, I think I just find that dresses are more flattering on my body shape and more comfortable.
For me the thing with skirts is finding the right shape to suit my body. After years of denial I have accepted that I have a hour glass figure rather than the boyish one that I was trying to achieve. This means that I have a small waist and a big bum, I’ve realised that we are all different shapes and sizes and beautifully unique and that we can’t all pull of the same shapes. Personally, I tend to opt for A-line, maxi and pencil skirts for my shape.
I’ve been looking at some of the skirts available on the high street and picked out some of my favourites:
1. Calf length skirt, H&M
2. Boucle scallop hem skirt, Topshop
3. Tribal print maxi skirt, New Look
4. Sunflower skater skirt, Dorothy Perkins
5. Arianna plain full circle maxi skirt, Boohoo
6. Giant floral crepe skirt, Warehouse
7. Striped skirt, Kaliko at Debenhams
8. Gingham pencil skirt, Topshop
9. Coated wrap around skirt, H&M
There really is something for everyone in terms of shape, patterns and colours Obviously, I’ve got my eyes on the striped skirt from Debenhams, but I also love the flirty calf length skirt from H&M. I’m still on the look out for a lovely maxi/midi skirt to wear over or under my ever expanding bump and I think the H&M one in this post will be a great comfortable fit. Although not for me, I think the scallop hem skirt from Topshop is super cute and I’m loving pastels right now.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone, hopefully some sunshine will be involved!
What shape skirts do you tend to go for? Are there any shapes that are a complete no-no for you?

I am not a skirt girl, but I really need to try out some of these! They look really pretty and faltering.
Glad you like them Latoyah! 🙂
I do love skirts, but you are right it can be hard to get the right style to suit your shape.
I totally agree!
I am actually just about to head out of the door to go skirt shopping, so I will look out for some of these. Love number 1!
Ooooh! I hope that you found something nice.
Lovely picks as always! I really like the gold leather look skirt because I have a great black blouse that I think would work with it for an evening look. Have a lovely weekend!
I think it would look great on you!
Oh they’re all so pretty! I love a good floaty mid length skirt…but I do thing they make me look short sadly. I’m probably better with a pencil skirt just past my knees with a pair of heels.
I love them all too! I’m having to restrain myself and not go shopping! 🙂
I’m definitely a dress girl too! I tend to prefer to cover up my stomach area as I can be quite self conscious about it so end up avoiding skirts as I am never sure what style would be flattering…
Skirts are difficult, especially because there is so much choice.
I love love love that first skirt!
That one is one of my faves 🙂
I don’t often wear skirts, although have a couple of long, floaty ones in my wardrobe. I’m more of a dress girl myself!
I love the colour of skirt #1 on your list.
I love that skirt too, I think you could way it with so much.
