Happy Friday friends! I’m really happy to be back for another Fashion Friday post, which I love to write as it gives me a chance to do a bit of window shopping and check out the latest fashions. I have a shopping trip planned to update my wardrobe after the baby and with these posts my wish list only seems to be getting longer.
One thing that I’m looking forward to is getting a capsule wardrobe together for the autumn that concentrates on interchangeable staples. Now that the weather is beginning to cool off we enter that weird transitional phase where we are unsure about what to wear – the sun is shining, but it’s freezing cold out outside.
At this time of year, with weather like this I always resort to layering because if it gets too hot I can take a couple of layers off and do the reverse if it gets cold again. On some days I feel like I need a coat, but nothing too heavy just something to cover up and keep me dry if it rains. One autumnal wardrobe staple that is a classic is the good old trench coat and they are everywhere right now. Here are some of my favourite picks that I’ve found from the high street:
1. Soft bonded trench coat, Topshop
2. Stud sleeve mac, Primark
3. Dark brown faux fur collar trench coat, River Island
4. Dark red arrow trench coat, Joules
5. 3/4 sleeved trench coat, House of Fraser
6. Ines de La Fressange trench coat, Uniqlo
7. Classic cotton trench coat, Mango
8. A-line trench coat, John Lewis
9. Dark grey sleeveless trench coat, River Island
It’s amazing looking at how many different varieties and looks that are available from one style of coat. Not only is there the classic belted beige trench coat, but they also come in a variety of colours, patterns, lengths and even without sleeves.
Although out of my price range I adore the jewel blue of the Ted Baker trench coat from John Lewis. I like the fact that it’s almost like a hybrid of a traditional trench coat and a princess coat with the skirt at the bottom. The sleeveless trench coat is a great alternative for those fashion forward folks, which I think would look great with black cigarette trousers, a white shirt and worn open like a waistcoat for a more streamline masculine look.
What staples do you have in your transitional capsule wardrobe? How do you pick what to wear in the morning when the weather is so unpredictable?
I love coat numer 7 but they all look good! takes me ages to find my winter coat.

The Ted Baker is definitely my fave too, it’s gorgeous!
I’m in total shopping mood at the moment – I love autumn for clothes best! My pick would be the River Island one – I love that it’s like a biker jacket in trench form!
I have a beige trench coat and I love it. It’s not too thick so it’s kind of perfect for autumn when you really don’t need a big thick coat.
I like number 4 and 6 best I think.
I’m all about layers when the weather is unpredictable!

I love trench coats but I can never see myself wearing them – I can’t really afford…anything so I tend to invest in pieces that will keep me warm when it’s colder. Mostly use my leather jacket for transition weather. I need to get my mom to ship the coat I bought last winter to me (I moved country in April) because I love that coat and I am nowhere near done with it yet.

#4 and #8 are gorgeous! I am not much of a fashionista, and I am a hairstylist so my wardrobe is essentially, do I wear black short sleeves today, or black long sleeves today? lol
Coats #1 & #4 have me wishing my stay at home mommy job came with a salary so I could buy them! 🙂
I absolutely love the A-line trench coat! the coloring is darling and I love the way it flairs out a bit at the bottom <3
I have a couple of trenches and I love them. But my closet staple is scarves. I have hundreds of them, different colors, fabrics and weights – I wear one everyday they completely change an outfit.
These are great!! Living in Arizona, we don’t really have seasons. In fact, I only have 1 coat and I wear it when I go visit home (Chicago) in the winters!
The John Lewis trench is amazing! That color is so deep. I just love jewel tones. Here in AZ it’s hot until November, so the sleeveless one is more practical here.
I love #8 as well! The color is beautiful! To be honest I don’t really have a transitional capsule wardrobe but I do like to keep it simple with some flattering tees and statement necklaces. I like that I can dress them up for the evening but still ear them around town during the day 🙂
I’m loving number 3 and number 6. Quite a lot of my coats have actually come from River Island but it usually takes me ages to find one I like!
The stud sleeve mac looks great. I can easy envision myself rocking that, very much my style. Right now I’m struggling with the unpredictable weather and transitional climate change. However, I do like to wear my long beige trench jacket in the fall/early spring. It’s not stifling yet insulates enough heat to keep me warm. It’s a wardrobe much for me.
I’m excited for the colder weather to show it’s face so I can layer! Cute picks!

I LOVE 4 and 6! so far, it hasnt felt like fall – but i do like you. i layer several times over! for super cold weather i have a wool trench style that i love

I think #1 and #7 are my favorite. #1 because it’s different, and #7 because it’s timeless.
So funny, I looked at them and settled on both of the River Island coats. They get it right every time! Although, I think I’d change the buttons on the sleeve-less trench. Big brass buttons would give it so much more ‘wow’!
