Date night and alarm bells at the cinema

Last night I got to wear my new favourite dress:

We decided to go out and have a bit of a date night and kept it simple with the old dinner and movie affair. I knew it was going to be a great night out before we even stepped out the door but it was made even better as Alfie drove to and from town. Call me a traditionalist, but I think there is something nice about being picked up by your man and being taken out to be wined and dined even if it did involve ‘L’ plates. Usually it’s me doing all of the driving, so it made a lovely change.

For dinner we headed to Chang Mai Kitchen, a cute little Thai restaurant that is quite the hidden gem:

We went for the mixed starter to share that came with various dips and sauces and I had the whole steamed sea bass for my main. Alfie had a roast duck curry which was simply delicious, love Thai food.

Since I’ve been feeling crappy all week with a cold I decided to cheer myself up and wear my new dress out.

OOTD:dress, Zara// tights, Tu @ Sainsbury’s//ankle boots, New Look// biker jacket, ASOS// bag, Mulberry.

I really do love the vintage look of that dress, when in fact I bout it fresh out of Zara last week. I knew I had to have as soon as I saw it, love at first sight me thinks.

After dinner with full and satisfied bellies we headed to the cinema. A couple of you recommended some great films to me in response to my tweet. I perused the movie trailers and we settled on Rush. Alfie’s a Formula 1 fan anyway so we were on to a winner with that one.

On the way to the cinema I picked up a hazelnut hot chocolate from Pret, delicious! When we finally got to the cinema the fire alarm was going off, all the lights were out and there were crowds of people outside. Apparently the electric had gone and there were lots of angry people trying to get their money back. It was a shame as we were both looking forward to watching the movie, but we headed off home to watch a movie and to eat our cinema snacks…sweet and salty popcorn.

Even though the night was cut short it was a great evening out, the food and company were fantastic! Alfie’s such a gentleman, he drove me all the way home and even walked me to the door…ha!

Do you have a favourite cuisine? I tend to swing between Thai, Indian and Japanese food, yum to all three!

Again, I love that dress Jemma – it looks great on you!
What a sweet night, and lovely to be picked up and driven there and back too! I’m waiting for that moment with James, he just has to get a car first!

Thanks hun! Technically I wasn’t picked up as I live with Alfie, but it felt like such a treat. Fingers crossed that he passes his test as I could get used to this 🙂

Awwr so sweet! I’m definitely a traditionalist when it comes to dating… There’s something to be said about a guy going out of his way to be a gentleman. Glad to hear that you had such a good night, and that dress looks great on you 🙂

Oh no that is a shame you didn’t get to see the film- hopefully you will as it really is brilliant.
That dress is so pretty- <3 it!
We have been trying to go to the cinema a bit as Andy really loves films and it is a bit of a treat to go out.
My fave meal would be Italian 🙂

Thanks Maria, I’m really loving my dress. It’s still on our to watch list as it looks fab! I love films too and have been trying to make more if an effort with the cinema.

Dress looks fabulous Jemma! I LOVE Chang Mai too, I remember it won some award for being one of the best thai restaurants in the UK (but still so reasonable priced too!) – lovely and cosy on the inside too and definitely like the “hidden” feel to it too 🙂

The boy and I had a lovely date this weekend where we went for dumplings and then to do the theatre – it’s just so wonderful to have “couple” time even if you live together…

That’s such a shame about the film. I’ve heard good reviews about it. But at least you weren’t half way through when the fire alarm went off!
My favourite cuisine is probably Indian. But I do love traditional pub food as well.
