If you're having a bad day and feeling low try these simple ways in which you can cultivate some positivity into your day.

When we’re in a funk it can be hard to see that sparkly silver lining in that cloud or a hint of positivity. Even though I’m all for “feeling the way you want to feel” and “it’s OK not to be OK” these mindsets can become damaging if they are prolonged.

Sometimes it’s not as simple as putting on your positive pants as some situations require more time to work through and recover from.  However, if you’re just having a bad day that has left you feeling low and a bit ‘meh’ there are some simple ways in which you can make yourself feel better and help you get back on track.

Carry out an activity that uplifts you

When I spend my time doing something that I love and gets those positive vibes flowing I can be sure that I’m going to feel better for it and my mood will be lifted. It can be as basic as spending time outdoors walking, listening to a favourite podcast or reading a book.   On a bad day, making space for something that normally brings you joy will hopefully spark some happiness and help change your day around.

Write a List about all the Good in Your Life

Sometimes we just need to reminded about all the amazing things and people in our lives to help us feel good again.  I like to have a list typed out on my phone of the things that I’m grateful for in my life, big and small.  My gratitude list helps to highlight that even on a bad day that there is still so much good in my life.  Spending some time in the morning or before bed writing a gratitude list is a lovely self care practice to do daily for this reason.

Carry Out a Good Deed

Even if you’re not feeling in the best mood, making someone else’s life a little brighter by showing them some kindness can help spread some positivity, including back to yourself.   Carrying out a good deed can go a long way and have a massive impact on someone else’s day.

I know I always feel better after helping others because positivity breeds positivity.  Only the other week, I let a lady jump the queue in front of me at the supermarket because she had fewer items than my huge weekly shop and it didn’t seem fair that she had to wait that long for my shopping to go through the till.  She was really appreciative and we struck up a conversation at the same time and both acts put me in a positive mood for the rest of the day.

Sunbites has created a campaign called #GoodGrows which embodies the power of doing a little good through its partnership with CARE International to launch the Light Her Path initiative, aimed at giving girls the education they deserve.   This fantastic initiative helps in lots of ways, including building solar panel powered learning centres.

There’s a little bit of ‘taste good’ and ‘do good’ in every Sunbite and I’ve really been enjoying the Sour Cream (And Cracked Black Pepper) flavour multipack from their Grain Wave range and they come in lots of other flavours too.  Sunbites has a brand new look and has launched the UK’s only veg and multigrain snack that includes corn, wheat, and oats.

Remember that this storm will pass

Another thing that helps me get through a bad day and turns my head to a more positive light is perspective.  A negative period is just one season in an entire lifetime; it will eventually pass and you will come out the other side stronger and more knowledgeable as a person. It may not feel like it initially and you may feel like you’ll never see the light at the end of the tunnel, but be gentle with yourself and keep in mind that things won’t be this way forever.

Spruce Up Your Space

A messy uninspiring space isn’t really conducive to a positive space of mind.  I always feel emotionally well and in a good mood when my house is looking ship shape and full of things that I love.  When you’re feeling low you may not feel like giving your space a tidy, but simply buying yourself a bunch of flowers to brighten up your living room can make your environment a more positive place to be.

Have you carried out a good deed recently? How did it make you feel?
