Keen to show off the versatility of smoothies at a recent John Lewis event, I made this seriously rich and indulgent chocolate pear pudding smoothie, it tastes naughty when in fact it’s pretty healthy and packed with some super nutrients.
I’m really getting back into my smoothies at the moment, can you tell? I posted my Blood Orange & Cashew Smoothie recipe a few days ago. So, it’s safe to say that I was super excited to be invited to a smoothie making event with John Lewis and to be among lots of other bloggers to soak up all that inspiration.

An indulgent and rich dessert smoothie with avocado, pear, cocoa powder and dates that is full of nourishing ingredients!
- 1 pear
- 1/2 avocado
- 1 tsp flax seeds
- 2 medjool dates stones removed
- 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tbsp cashew nuts
- 2 tbsp coconut milk (the creamy part at the top)
- Coconut water until the desired consistency is reached
-
Blend all of the ingredients together in a blender until smooth and serve.
To start, we took part in a Q&A with Madeleine Shaw and then it was time to get our hands dirty with lots of beautiful fresh ingredients, superfood powders, nuts, and seeds and create our smoothies. Smoothies can be incredibly individual, depending on what’s in season, personal taste and sometimes mood. I was definitely in the mood for a dessert that evening so went with a chocolate theme for my smoothie. In went some avocado, pear, dates, cocoa powder, coconut milk, and water to name a few of the ingredients that I was drawn to.
Afterward, our smoothies were left in the hands of photographer Charlie Richards and a wonderfully talented food stylist who worked their magic on all of our creations. I also found it a great opportunity to pick Charlie’s brains about food photography and pick up some essential tips.
John Lewis has a great range of blenders, which has to be one of my most used appliances in my kitchen.
What is your most used kitchen appliance?

Chocolate is always a winner!
Smoothies are my favourite way to be able to incorporate so many healthy foods into my diet. They are also great when you are craving something sweet, you can still have a healthy treat. This smoothie sounds delicious and decadent, it’s one I would try for sure x

This is *such* an eye-catching name for a smoothie, and it lives up to expectations of something healthy and delicious. I can juct imagine how good it tastes. In fact, I have all of the ingredients and want to make it tomorrow! My daughter will love it too so I will send her the link here. Thanks Janice!
Just as I was wondering what to do with done pears we’ve got – My little girl loves them but I’m yet to be convinced. Given my love of smoothies though this might just do it!! And my nutribullet and nespresso machine are equally used and loved in my kitchen!
Yay! I’ve got a load of pears to use up so will be making a couple of these this week I think. I love my Nutribullet too. 🙂
This looks great, I’m so jealous you got to meet Madeline Shaw! The recipe definitely looks like one I’ll try, cheers for the recommendation 🙂 xo
Thanks Emma. It certainly is a delicious treat.

Love the sound of this. It’s a healthy variation on a childhood favourite of mine – chocolate custard and tinned pears!
What a lovely childhood favourite to have, sounds delish!
A pudding smoothie sounds nice, and I bet chocolate and pear is a lovely combination x
Thank you. They work so well together.
At the moment my blender is my fave, I’m into breakfast smoothies and recently made my pancakes in the blender, then poured them straight into the pan – genius!
Oh they sound lovely and so easy to do in the blender too.
This post has inspired me to get back into smoothies! I had a look at the Blood Orange & Cashew recipe as well, and I’m going to try that one too.
That’s lovely to hear Emily. I hope you enjoy them if you do give them a go.

That is a delicious looking smoothie. I love the combination of chocolate and pear, but I’ve never had it in a smoothie before.
Wow this smoothie sounds naughty but is really healthy! I’ll have to add it to my list – I do need a new blender though, my nutribullet has packed in!
Exactly! Naughty but healthy – it’s all about that balance. 🙂

Oh yum! This looks like dessert in a glass! I love pears so this is right up my street!
I would never had thought that pear and chocolate would go well together. I suppose it makes a nice natural sweetener to the cocoa though.
Ooh this looks delicious x
