The weather seems to have taken an autumnal turn in these parts this weekend. The air has been much crisper, although the sun has been shining we have had heavy rain too. Last night I was burning salted caramel candled and cosied up on the sofa with a huge duvet. My lord, those candles smell good, almost good enough to eat!
On Friday night I got all glammed up for a fancy black tie surgical dinner at Oxford University. I wasn’t entirely sure on what to wear, but I settled on my Matthew Williamson dress (via Debenhams) with my Jimmy Choos. The picture above is an oldie, but I wore my hair the same and my make up, so essentially I looked the same just minus the tights and nude shoes.
Despite being extremely busy all last week I enjoyed some lovely food:
A typical thing for me at work now is to take a huge batch of a bean, grain or legume salad topper to add to mixed salad leaves for lunches. The week before I used bulgar wheat week and this week I changed it up with green lentils. Also, in to the mix went feta cheese, mango, spring onions, roasted peppers chopped mint and basil, so good.
Dinners have been quick and easy and this pork mince in a tomato sauce and veggies was a great mid week meal. I had it on top of salad leaves, parmesan cheese and half an avocado.
Stir fries are always a staple meal for me on busy weeks as they are a fantastic way to pack in your veggies. I cooked some dice pork in soya sauce, ginger, garlic, chilli and honey to create a sticky sauce. Then I stir fried the veggies including broccoli, red peppers and mushrooms in a bit of soy sauce and added chopped spring onions on top. Alfie and I loved this and it’s super healthy too!
I’ve been snacking on the last of the summer berries:
These jewel like cherries and strawberries were utterly delicious!
Yesterday for breakfast I made a 3 egg omelet stuffed with cheddar cheese and tomatoes with half an avocado on the side. I’m just loving my eggs at the moment.
Now these oats were so good that I had them 3 times this week. Plain creamy oats made in the microwave with water and unsweetened almond milk topped with a chopped apple and Coconom ginger coconut sugar. My word this was incredible, the ginger added a lovely warmth to the cooler mornings.
These delicious delights were devoured at a memorial service for a family friend that we went to yesterday. It was quite an emotional day, but it was more of a celebration of life and remembering how our hearts had been touched by a very special person. Apparently scones with cream were her favourite and I think she had a good point, yum!
So it’s been quite a mixed bag of a weekend. We are off out later as Alfie is taking part in a charity rowing race with his work colleagues. last time we went rowing in Stratford-Upon-Avon we ended up going around in circles and getting stuck in a rift, completely hilarious! Hopefully he does a lot better this time round.
What have you been up to this weekend?
Do you have a signature cake or dessert that is personal to you that defines your life?

Love the look of the oats with the coconut sugar- sounds delicious.
Although a memorial service is sad, it is nicer when it is more a celebration of someone’s life so it is nice you can remember your friend whenever you have a scone.
I totally agree. It’s better to remember to the happy moments and celebrate a life rather than mourn the loss of a life.
I am so happy that Autumn is arriving. It is my favourite season.
I agree about stir-fries too. So easy to throw together, and healthy too.
I love autumn too, so much to look forward too 🙂
Im all about stir fries at the moment. So yummy!
How lovely about the scones. I’d love that to be something I was remembered by – good cake 🙂
Love the outfit as well, so pretty. Very glitzy.
Thanks Anna! It is a good thing to be remembered for 🙂 Stir fries are my best friend right now.
Sounds like a great weekend. We took a daytrip to Northern Ireland yesterday and the weather was amazing- unlike Saturday! We were pretty lucky, the temperatures seem to have dropped so suddenly.
It is feeling very autumnal isn’t it.
