Yesterday was the most amazing day! It was our little man’s christening day and thankfully after the horrendous downpour on Friday the sun shone and we had a lovely garden party at our home with our friends and family to celebrate. With like most family events, I failed to take many pictures, but I know that everyone, including my brother-in-law who is a camera whizz took loads so I know that there are plenty floating around for the family album.
Photograph courtesy of my awesome friend – thank you! 🙂
We had bunting, pom poms, vintage china, glass drinking jars with retro straws, flowers, afternoon tea, sandwiches, macaroons, mini patisseries, strawberries, fresh salads, meats, a two-tiered celebration cake (unpictured), Pimm’s, lemonade, ginger beer…it was quite the little feast! Aiden looked very smart in his cream tuxedo complete with a bow-tie and tails of course and all of his baby friends looked adorable. I’m so glad the weather held out for us and it became bright and sunny for Aiden’s special day. Everyone seemed to be having a great time and we loved celebrating this special occasion with our friends a family. It sounds funny, but it all went by in a blur for me, so I’m really looking forward to eventually seeing everyone’s photographs.
As you can imagine it’s been a stupidly busy week trying to get everything ready for Aiden’s christening. This week even included a full-day trip to Dorset, which I won’t go into now, but we ended up having lunch in Weymouth at a posh looking fish and chip shop. I spotted squid on the menu, which I’ve eaten a lot of in the past and opted to have that instead of fish. Well, my plan totally backfired and I ended up with food poisoning that resulted in a horrible drive back home and left me feeling ill and sorry for myself on Friday when we were trying to prepare for yesterday’s party. Alfie worked his magic though and did a brilliant job with the party preparations. I helped when I could and throughout the day I gradually got better. What a ridiculous time to get ill – it sounds stupid, but I was really annoyed at myself!
So with all that going on, I’ve been rubbish at photographing my food this week, but here’s what I did manage to capture:
A super creamy peanut butter and banana smoothie complete with glass jar and a retro straw!
Toasted sourdough topped with scrambled egg, half an avocado and tomatoes.
Courgetti with green pesto, two fried eggs and cayenne pepper.
New love! Two ingredient flatbread with raisins and coconut – recipe coming soon!
Smoked duck salad from Carluccio’s. Even though it tasted nice I was really disappointed with the duck because it was more like wafer thin ham, rather than the meaty duck breast that I had imagined.
What a week! After putting the house back together again, today is going to be a quiet and restful one. I’m thinking feet up painting my nails, DVDs, starting my new cross-stitch, eating leftover christening cake and catching up with my favourite blogs. I hope you all have a beautiful Sunday and a great week ahead!
Have you been to a garden party? What was your favourite bit about it?
Have you ever took a gamble on the weather? We took a massive risk with the weather yesterday, it’s the one thing that you just can’t control with outdoor events.

That food looks delicious! I am always looking for new things to try and make my menu even healthier! Those are some great additions! Also…where did you get that mug? It’s to die for. The christening looked beautiful and lime it was straight out of a magazine! An amazing post with even greater pictures. I have left this post smiling and hungry…a job well done!
The Kilner mug is from Amazon, but they’re pretty popular now so I think you could probably pick them up in most places. Thank you, we all really had a great time. 🙂
My children were born in the wrong time of the yer for a garden party – but maybe I should just make an occasion up and throw them one. Yours looks fab.
Haha! Aiden is an autumn baby, so I’m so glad that we had his christening in the summer so I could have a garden party.

Coingrats to your little man! I have been wanting to throw a garden party for one of my kids. I am hoping next year. I love how you set everything up and how you did NOT overdue it in color. I love this setup.
