Sometimes it’s nice to slave over the hob and cook something from scratch, however, it can be equally as satisfying pouring from a packet too. Recently I’ve been taking pleasure in buying some healthier pre-made foods to help bring some ease into my kitchen and life when things get a bit busy.
We’ve all been there, after a tough day at work the last thing you want to do is cook a meal. Those takeaway menus are calling your name and it’s so tempting to ring for your favourite curry. There’s nothing wrong with spoiling yourself with a takeaway, however, we all know that homemade food is better for us. When we don’t have time to cook from scratch a dinner that is half made using pre-prepared ingredients is far healthier than a takeaway. I used to avoid pre-prepared food like the plague, but now I realise that they too can have a place in leading a balanced and nourished life.

I never cook, i don’t have time to. Especially if i have had a busy day. All i want to do is get a ready meal and shove it in the microwave
Pre-made is so much easier when you’ve had a busy day at work and don’t feel like cooking. I rely on it too.
I think it’s all about balance and as long as you’re not relying too heavily on pre-prepared foods then it’s all good! x
There are now more healthy versions of pre-made foods and that is a wonderful thing. There are many days that I’m just not up to cooking a meal from scratch and being able to quickly put something together with pre-made foods while still maintaining a healthy diet is a lifesaver for me x
Frozen veggies and fruit are my favourite premade foods and always in our freezer! they come in handy so often.
I try and create a balance between the two. Because I work long hours having something pre-prepared definitely helps me out!
I think it can depend on the pre-prepared food. You need to check labels before you buy.
I agree – if you need a quick fix then sometimes it is beneficial to be able to cut some corners x
If I’m able to prep on the weekends .. life is infinitely easier during the week. It also saves a lot of money because we’re not eating out as much. If there’s nothing in the fridge it’s just as easy to stop an pick something up than forage around in the cupboards!
I normally buy some prepared foods especially during the night as I am already tired after work. This is such a nice post. Definitely a big help for the people who are always on the go.
There are so many great choices out there. The lentil curry from Aldi is one of my favourites.
Super idea, sometimes life is hectic so short cuts such as buying pre made foods that can ease our cooking time is much healthier than going to the local takeaway 🙂 x
I also tend to combine the cooking from scratch with pre-made foods, like frozen veggies. I love sweet potatoes too and I like to buy them already packed as I find them very hard to peel and cut. And if I bake them from scratch I can never get them crispy, same as they turn out from a pack.
I like to cook from scratch where possible as I batch cook but I do like pre made things such as chopped peppers frozen, etc as it mades cooking more affordable and faster! xxx
Agreed! I love cooking from scratch but sometimes I just love to whip an Innocent pot in the microwave haha!
