Smoothies are a quick and convenient way to pack as many essential vitamins and minerals into our meal times to help give our bodies a super healthy nutritional boost. Vitamin C is naturally present in many of our foods, some more than others, and this delicious green smoothie has it in abundance to help you feel nourished, well and fabulous.
Come this time of year we welcome the colder months along with the plague of bugs that we cannot escape for one reason or another. My little man is at nursery and husband works in a hospital, so you can imagine the lovely cocktail of germs that we have at home.
Leading up to the autumn months I like to naturally safeguard my immune system through the food that I eat. Dark leafy greens like the kale used in this smoothie are packed with vitamin C to help support the immune system. Another great natural source of this cold-fighting nutrient are kiwis, which also offer a lovely tropical sweetness against the earthy kale.

- 1 large handful of raw kale
- 1 banana
- 6 slices of cucumber
- 2 kiwis
- 1 thumb size piece of ginger
- 1 tbsp coconut oil
- 1 1/2 cups almond milk or your milk of choice
-
Pour all of the ingredients in a blender and blitz until smooth.
-
Serve and enjoy!
I love a little fiery ginger in my smoothies, because not only does it tastes great but also acts as a decongestant if you’re unlucky to be struck down with a cold or flu. There are so many immune boosting foods out there and I previously blogged about them here. This smoothie has 2 immune-boosting superfoods and I know I will be whizzing this up regularly for breakfast in my Vitamix S30 over the cold and flu season to help protect my immunity.
How do you try to protect your immune system over cold and flu season?
*Vitamix S30 was gifted for review, but all opinions are my own.

Right up my street, I love a good smoothie or juice. I like to make a kale juice, I always feel when I juice regularly, I can’t less sick! Thanks for this smoothie!
That sounds like a great smoothie recipe! Must try this one!

I never think to use kale in my green smoothies, you’ve inspired me. Will definitely try this one morning this week!
It works really well in smoothies. I hope you enjoy it if you do give it a try.

Yes, super quick and easy!
Oh this is so healthy! I will definitely be trying this out. I love that you added ginger too, looks delish!
Thanks Sheri! Ginger is so warming in the colder months.
I love juices and smoothies, definitely need to get into making my own more as they make me feel great! (particularly when hungover…!)
I would love a Vitamix! I have heard that they are the best blenders, and really powerful.
All of my favourite ingredients in one smoothie! Kale, ginger, bananas and coconut. Refreshing and energising! 🙂
I make smoothies in my Vitamix at least six days a week and love how energized I feel after drinking them. I’ve never tried one with kale though. I bet with the kiwi and banana, it tastes really good!
I would much rather add fresh ingredients to a smoothie for the germ fighting power than something in a powder. I am always looking for delicious smoothie recipes and this one looks like a winner.
I need to start adding ginger to my smoothies, I bet it adds a real kick. Would be good to warm me up through the winter 😉
This smoothie looks so much more refreshing and appealing that most green smoothies I’ve seen, can’t wait to try it!
I think it’s a great idea to try to get your vitamin C from food rather than taking supplements. It’s got to be better for you too, right? I’ll have to give this smoothie a go for sure 🙂
This will be so great for the upcoming winter when we all need extra Vitamin C!
This is definitely the perfect smoothie for this time of year. We always used to make our own smoothies but have kind of fallen out of the habit – I’d love to give this a whirl though.
Oh, yum! I love adding ginger to smmothies, especially in the cooler months.

I really like the sound of this one, though I would have to ditch the ginger as it makes me feel nauseous x

Always love visiting your site. This is a great idea, I will adapt to our diet and start *trying to build up our immune systems. It gets hectic with 3 kids, taking turns getting sick. ?
This looks jam-packed with goodness! I try and avoid people who are coughing or sneezing and wash my hands a lot in the winter…but generally I don’t get ill that much (*touch wood*).
Adding ginger is a great idea. So trying this.
