Happy Valentine’s Day to all you lovebirds that were celebrating yesterday! We’re a bit anti-Valentine’s Day in our house and only mark the occasion with a card, but yesterday I did buy Alfie some red velvet and chocolate cupcakes and he surprised me with some champagne chocolate truffles. As a couple we’re very romantic (by our own standards anyway), but never really bought into the commercialism of needing a day to express your love for one another. Also, our anniversary of when we started dating is next month and that always seemed more special to us, 10 years this year, yikes!
Aiden and I made a Valentine’s Day card for Alfie at playgroup the other day, considering that he’s only 19 weeks old he didn’t do a bad job…ahem!
Blueberries have been a bit of a ‘thing’ for me recently and I’m really enjoying them on my porridge. This lovely bowl was plain porridge made with unsweetened almond milk topped with blueberries, avocado, coconut and honey. Adding an avocado to my porridge is a new thing for me and I really like those healthy fats in the morning.
When I do the grocery shop I always seem to treat myself to something and this week it was a pot of the new vanilla Coyo coconut yoghurt. I crumbled in some of my Gingerbread Almond Cookies, pomegranate seeds and blueberries, so delicious!
This has become one of my go-to salads as I tend to have these ingredients in at the moment: mixed salad leaves, beets, pomegranate seeds, feta and a sprinkle of almonds and pumpkin seeds for some added crunch. I love adding nuts and seeds on top of my salad, soups and stir fries for some extra nutrition and I think they add a lovely texture too.
Since AJ was born we’ve got into the habit of buying shop bought fresh soups as well as making our own for quick healthy lunches. This was a Goan spiced soup that was very tomatoey and full of spices and pulses. I had a bowl with a side of some very pretty vegetable crisps, which even included green beans.
Last weekend I had cravings for a curry and was tempted to reach for the takeaway menu, but decided to make my own instead as we had all the ingredients in. I made this gorgeous fish curry that can easily be adapted to make it vegetarian too. It’s a much lighter alternative to a meatier curry and I’ll be sharing the recipe on the blog soon.
I’ve been really loving my workouts this week and I got invited to a postnatal pilates class that you can take your babies to by my mama friends. The studio had a great atmosphere and was very peaceful set in the countryside. It did get a bit chaotic when Aiden suddenly decided that he was hungry and then wanted to be held, so I ended up doing some of the floor exercises with him sitting on top of my belly grinning down at me. I’m becoming more convinced that he does these things on purpose, such a cheeky monkey!
Do you like to celebrate Valentine’s Day or are you a bit anti-Valentine’s Day like us? Have you been to any mother and baby exercise classes?

Loved your story of doing plates with a baby smiling down at you from your tummy. That hasn’t changed in our household. Still have the occasional home yoga session with one of the littlies feeling the need to hold into my leg the whole time. I think they’re pretty fascinated that I have other interests that they know nothing about!
Ha! Glad that it’s not only my baby that likes to play up at the most awkward of moments, bless! It’s sweet that they feel that they want to join in too.
I’m not a huge Valentine’s person as well so I like your blog title:p That cake does look so tasty though as does all your other food pictures 🙂 Have a great day! x
Thank you. I don’t think we’re in the minority where Valentine’s Day is concerned.
we did so many of those mum and bubs pilates classes, many with milly on board. Love them
They’re fantastic aren’t they. Ha! I think the little ones like to join in too. 🙂
haha, you went for the blueberry, avocado and honey porridge combo! It’s a good one, isn’t it?!
It’s a lovely combo and I’m a little bit addicted!
We don’t celebrate it, I don’t need a particular day to declare my love x
My sentiments exactly Rachel.
Absolutley LOVEEEEE your trainers! Also congrats on 10 years together!
Thanks, Lucie! I love them too, they are a bit neon though.
Valentines day to me seems so commercial and really cheesy. We have never celebrated it- we don’t get cards for each other or anything- I think that you should not need a day like that to spend time together or whatever
It really is a commercial thing! I noticed in the supermarkets that as soon as the Christmas cards went down the Valentine’s Day cards went straight up.
I love vanilla coyo. Also avocado in porridge is awesome 🙂
It was my first time trying it and I think I will be treating myself to it again, so yummy!
That’s great you can take your little one to pilates! What a great idea.
The curry looks fab too – so fresh and tasty looking!
