OK, I admit it, I’m terrible at looking after my feet. I’m and probably not the best person to be giving advice on this, but definitely over the past year there has been an improvement in my foot care routine. In the past, there were phases when I would be really good and give them regular pampering sessions, but then my good behaviour would go down hill. Also, I’ve been guilty of forcing my feet into shoes that were the correct size, but not the right shape for my feet, which left them with sores or a blister.
Neglecting the care of your feet can not only affect the way that they look, but it can eventually in severe circumstances effect how you walk due to pain or discomfort. Here are my 5 top tips for healthy feet:
Remember to dry in between your toes
This sounds so simple, but it’s one of those things that is so easy to forget when you are in a rush to get out of the door. Leaving your feet damp, especially in between the toes can create the perfect environment for the growth of foot fungus and development of athlete’s foot.
Wearing the correct shoes for your feet
I’m the first one to admit that I ‘ve often put fashion first over comfort when it comes to my feet. No matter how much I love a pair of shoes I’m now more aware about how my feet are going to respond to how well they fit. Wearing incorrect shoes that are not suited to the shape of your feet can pinch and become uncomfortable with the potential to develop calluses and bunions too.
Sports shops are fantastic at finding trainers to suit the shape of your feet by offering a gait measuring service so that your feet are comfortable when you exercise too. Another way to make sure that your trainers are supporting your feet and not causing any discomfort is by inserting insoles – there is now a wide range available to treat different problems.
Moisturise your feet daily
Just like remembering to dry between your toes, it’s easy to neglect moisturising your feet when in a rush. This is such a simple way to make sure that the skin on your feet is well nourished and cared for. A lovely treat is to apply coconut oil to your feet before going to bed and putting on socks so that you wake up with super soft feet in the morning.
Foot massages
Not only is indulging in a lovely foot massage fantastic after a long day, but they also increase the blood supply to the feet. This means that more oxygen will reach the skin cells of your feet, supplying them with nutrients and tired feet will be revitalised in an instant.
Regular foot pampering sessions
Treating your feet to a pampering session every few weeks is the perfect way to make sure that you are looking after them. Soaking them, giving them a massage, shaping your nails, moisturising your feet and applying nail varnish will keep your feet in good condition and looking great. This is also a fantastic way to prioritise time for yourself, which is essential in a busy lifestyle.
How good are you at looking after your feet? Do you like to give them a pampering session now and then?

Oh I’m terrible at looking after my feet, they’re rather battered from running. I’d love a decent pedicure but I’m too ashamed at the moment haha!
