My name is Jemma and I’m addicted to figs! Tis’ the season for figs my friends and I’ve eaten them like a crazy woman for the past couple of weeks. My addiction wasn’t helped by the fact that they have been on a promotional offer in the supermarket.
Figs are such a pretty fruit, very deceptive in their appearance because they don’t look very attractive on the outside, but once you cut them open their pretty pink flesh brightens up any dull plate. I’ve thrown them on top of my yoghurt messes, porridge oats and salads too. I think their subtle sweet flavour lends itself well to any dish, savoury or sweet.

- 2-3 figs
- 1 nectarine
- 1 tbsp honey
- handful of walnuts
- mozzarella cheese (or choose your favourite soft cheese)
- mixed salad leaves
- coconut oil
-
Slice the figs and nectarine and cook on the hob in some coconut oil and honey for roughly 5 minutes or until tender.
-
Next assemble the salad using the mixed leaves and top with the warmed fruit and sprinkle over the walnuts and cheese. Eat and devour!
I used mozzarella cheese because I love the creaminess of this particular cheese with the honey on the caramelised warm fruit, but I think goat’s cheese and feta cheese would also be a great addition too. Personally I prefer my warm fruit with a bit of bite which is why I only cooked them for 5 minutes so that they were just tender. Please cook them for longer if you prefer your fruit to be much softer.

Adding fruit and nuts to a salad is one of my favourite ways to eat them. The lovely warm fruit in this would be wonderful on a cold autumnal day, especially if you struggle to eat salads in the colder months. I’m hoping that figs stick around for the foreseeable future because I’m hooked for sure. Happy eating!
What is your favourite autumnal fruit? Are you a fan of fruit in your salads?
Do you struggle to eat salads in the colder months?

They really add colour to your dish!
I love adding fruit to salads. Grapes are a must, and yesterday I added a whole pile of blackberries. I can’t get enough blackberries at the moment!
Blackberries are great when they are in season. I think I will have to pick some up today. 🙂
I’ve never tried figs before actually, but might try this as it looks very yummy and healthy – although i dont think it’d turn out as great as yours ahah x

Jemma your pictures here are so beautiful, seriously great shots!
I’m a big fig lover, haven’t had any for a while but clearly this needs to be changed!
Thanks Claire! 🙂 You so need to change that. 🙂
Looks divine! I love salads with fruit in them. The natural sweetness is the perfect accompaniment to things like cheese or salty bacon.
Oh definitely! Fruit with cheese and nuts or bacon like you say = perfection!
Fab timing – just bought some figs today and had no idea what to do with them!
Great! I hope you enjoy them. 🙂
I love figs! I had goat’s cheese, fig and lentil salad for lunch yesterday, it was lovely. I’m printing this off to make for lunch next week 🙂
Your salad sounds gorgeous!
Got to admit I never really eat figs although I like them a lot! This salad looks gorgeous!
Thanks Tamzin!
Figs are one of those things that I REALLY want to like, as they are so good, but I just don’t like them 🙁
Aww that’s a shame, but I guess we can’t like everything. 🙂
This looks so great! It’s a combo I don’t think I would have dreamed up if I hadn’t seen it here first. I’ll have to try it! Thanks!
I hope that you like it if you try it. 🙂
Wow! This looks delicious!!! Can I just hire you to be my personal chef all of the time! Great dish!
Anytime! 🙂
I love adding fruits and nuts to my salads, too. This is a very creative idea!
Thanks! 🙂
Whoa! That looks devine. I’ve never had fresh figs before, only the dried kind you can get in the little tubs. Is there a difference? haha
Lol! There certainly is. 🙂
I am a HUGE fan of figs. Like eating so many at a time I would hate for anyone to find out 🙂
Hahha! It can be our secret.
This looks soo delicious! Gorgonzola may go well too. Figs work well on white pizza too.
I love them on pizza!
Love this recipe! SEems soooo refreshing!
Thanks Neely!
I love figs, and I must say they do make me think of your blog as you use them so much! In a good way. I had some in a salad today at lunch with some balsamic drizzle, that was tasty. I do love them warm too.
Hehehe! I am a little bit addicted to them, but The £1 offer in Sainsbury’s is always so tempting. 🙂
That salad looks amazing! I really love walnuts in my salad. I’m going to have to try this my hubby may not be too excited about the figs but it looks delicious
Haha! My hubby would be scared too.
Definitely pinning this for later! yum! Growing up my dad was obsessed with growing figs and he had (still has) about 20 figs plants that he cares for year round and built a green house to keep them alive during the winter. Random story for you 🙂
Hehhe! A lovely random story. 🙂
Yumm warm figs!! I will have to veganize this recipe because it looks so good!!
You can easily veganise Lindsay. 🙂
I haven’t tried figs before, but you’ve made me want to now! This does look yummy! x
Thank you! 🙂
ooh i love figs too! my mom has a bunch growing in her backyard and I miss being able to just grab a few whenever i feel like.
I would love to have figs on tap like that, adoring them at the moment!
Is it crazy that I have never tried figs before? This salad looks so good, though!
Thanks! 🙂
This sounds so good. I don’t usually eat fruit in my salads but this might be worth a try!
It adds a lovely sweetness and is great with cheese. 🙂
I have never eaten figs before, only fig newtons which doesn’t count. This looks good!
Hehe! Thank you. 🙂
I honestly don’t think I’ve ever had a fig other than in a newton! That salad looks delicious though!
Thanks Rebekah!
I love salads, never added figs to one before.
You should give it a try. I think you might like it. 🙂

Oh this sounds great – a bit of a pudding salad:) I love apple in salad with strong cheese and goats cheese in any salad really!
I love a bit of sweet and sour in my salads. Apples are wonderful in a salad too, yum!
Your salads are always so unique and interesting looking! I love adding nuts to my salads 🙂
I do like to jazz up a salad or two. 🙂
This looks delicious. We have a fig tree and my 10 year old is wayyy into finding just the right ripe ones to eat.
I’m so jealous of your fig tree!
I LOVE that salad!!!! I’d totally gobble it up, it has all of my favorite ingredients. 😀 I don’t know if you’ve tried this before, but walnut oil + balsamic would be awesome for the dressing. The nuttiness and fragrance of walnut oil is just lovely. Mmmm… happy fig-eating!

That is such a classic combination, yum!
I think figs are just so beautiful. Beautiful AND tasty.
Pinning this.
They are pretty aren’t they. 🙂
I had no idea what the figs were in the picture at first. They looked like tiny watermelons to me! Other than Fig Newtons, I am not sure I ever had figs. Now I must try,
Hahaha! Not many people have tried fresh figs surprisingly.
This looks awesome I do love figs. I think I’ll try this with goat cheese!
Goat’s cheese would work so well!
