We’re getting closer and closer!  Officially there are less than 4 weeks left until my due date, but technically my lil’ munchkin could make an appearance anytime from now. Exciting times!

36 weeks pregnancy update

Over the past week I’ve gone into nesting over drive and been on such a cleaning spree.  I’ve filled up several bags with old clothes and bits from around the house for charity that we no longer need or use and started to organise our cupboard space.  I always think that a good clear out is good for the mind and now that couldn’t be more true as we wait for our new arrival.  Re-painting some of the walls has also been another task that I’ve left until now.  I know that he won’t be bothered what colour the walls are or whether the cupboards are still full of unwanted crap, but I’m determined to freshen up the house for his arrival.   Another thing that I need to get started with is washing all of his clothes, they’re so tiny and cute!

Again, there has been lots of movement this week and my bump has popped out a bit more as he puts on more weight.  It was lovely when my mum saw him wriggling around at the weekend as she hadn’t seen that yet.  I have experienced some lightning pains under my bump, which after consulting some websites sounds like it could be lightening crotch, which is when the baby is trying to engage, but perfectly normal.  I still haven’t developed any stretch marks, but I know that these could still appear; although I swear that slathering on the coconut oil every day has helped.

Last week I went to a breastfeeding course that is run by La Leche League, an international charity foundation that helps to support breastfeeding mothers.  I didn’t know what to expect from the class to be honest, but I’m so glad that I went along.  Like all of their courses they are run by former breastfeeding mamas who have a vast knowledge and experience on the topic.  There were about 8 of us in total and we got to share our personal fears about breastfeeding as well as gain some informative knowledge on technique and what to expect.  I would definitely recommend this class to any mums-to-be if they are running courses in your area.

36 weeks

No words can describe the feeling of excitement that has built up over the past few months.  Now that we are so close, he could literally decide to come at anytime.  I’ve always known that I wanted children in my life and when we found out that I was expecting I couldn’t have been happier.  A few weeks into my pregnancy, it sounds really silly, but it suddenly dawned on me that I was going to be someones mother, responsible for a life.  Motherhood is such a scary venture, but something that is equally rewarding and full of joy.

So many fears about motherhood have passed through my mind over the past few months.  One of my main worries was about the strong connection that I have with him and whether this would be replicated outside the womb.  After reading lots of birth stories I feel certain that this is something that will naturally grow and grow between mother and son.  The amount of love that I feel for someone who I’ve technically never met is incredible.  I know that motherhood isn’t going to be easy, all of my friends that have had babies tell me that it’s difficult and tiring, but so worth it.  With the reality of motherhood and all that comes with it,  I have a deep respect for all of those mothers out there and a deeper respect and gratitude for my own.

Even though I feel physically and mentally prepared for labour, nothing can prepare me for the emotions that I will feel for holding my baby boy for the first time.  I imagine that it’s going to be one of those magical moments that I will cherish.   I’m really looking forward to meeting him, nurturing him and watching his little personality develop.  I’m already certain that he and his dad are going to be like two peas in a pod.  I think that I have a cheeky monkey on my hands already.

Expecting or not, do you have any fears over the ‘M’ word?  How did/have you deal/dealt with these emotions?
