Hello friends! I’m having a wonderful weekend so far full of the things that I love. Lie-ins, organising the baby’s clothes and getting ready, baking and reading. Today my family are coming to visit and we’re going for a pub lunch and I’ve baked another red velvet cake…bring on the sugar coma! Hope you lovelies are all enjoying your weekends too.
I would like to say a massive thank you for your amazing comments on this post earlier in the week. You guys seriously ROCK! I feel so blessed to be part of such a supportive community and to have such wonderful friends and family.
How chilly has it been in the UK this week? It feels like summer has been pulled away from under our feet to be hit with autumn already; August you are freezing! The bump and I have kept warm with mugs of tea, roobios tea being our favourite.
Even though it has been feeling autumnal, one of my favourite things about the season is the produce. I’ve been overdosing on figs especially because Sainsbury’s are currently selling them for £1. This lovely bowl of homemade Bircher muesli topped with figs, cherries, walnuts and raisins was delicious for breakfast.

More beautiful fig action came in the form of this bowl of overnight oats, which I topped with organic natural yoghurt, honey and cashew nuts. Obviously I seem to have fallen in love with figs and I have a lovely recipe featuring them coming up on the blog soon.
Yesterday I filled the fridge with lot of fresh fruit and vegetables after the grocery shop. I think a lot of what I bought ended up in this salad. Mixed leaves, avocado, blueberries, peppers, tomatoes, spring onions and cheese made this salad epic. Next time I think I might try the same mix but with strawberries and peaches, yum! I’m also in love with the funky cutlery that I’ve been kindly sent from Culture Vulture Direct.
This photo is from last week’s picnic consisting of 20 plus people. We all bought our own food to contribute to the picnic and in the end it looked more like a banquet – there was so much food! My contribution was a red velvet cake, lemon sponge tray bake and some fruit kebabs. I LOVE red velvet cake! Everyone else seemed to enjoy it too as we came home with empty cake tins.

We went for a treat lunch at Wagamama during the week. It was one of those deceptive days with the weather where the sun was shining but it was freezing cold outside. To warm up I had this bowl of ramen soup that was full of a mixture of meats and seafood.

At 36 weeks pregnant I’m really happy that I’m still able to get my workouts in. Fair enough, my workouts are quite limited, but it feels so great to be able to move and keep up some kind of fitness routine. I’m looking forward to a relaxing prenatal yoga session today as my muscles will really appreciate all that stretching.
The rest of my weekend plans involve catching up with friends and family, eating lots of delicious food, re-painting walls, and getting ready for the baby. It’s crazy to think that there are only roughly four weeks left till his arrival. I’m seriously excited now and cannot wait to have lots of baby cuddles with him.
How have you been spending the weekend? What is your all time favourite cake?

Wooooaaahh I can’t believe you’re still doing exercises at 36 weeks, that is really good. I couldn’t do that, my levels of “relaxin” were quite bad, any form of wrong turn, stretch would just hurt so bad! On anotehr note, I have a bake off competition at work, I’m doing a peekaboo cake with the inside in red, you reminded me that it does exist! I should look up the recipe! I’m excited for you btw 4 weeks!!!! yeahhhh
I’m slowing things down now Esmeralda 🙂 I can’t wait to see pictures of your cake. 🙂
It’s been all work and I play so far but I now have two days off yay! Lemon drizzle or anything zesty!
Hope you got some time to relax. 🙂
Fruit in salad is just the best!
For my 21st I made 100 cupcakes, half of which were red velvet… Baking all those put me off cupcakes and red velvet for rather a long time! I’m going to have to try it again at some point!
You know after my fig excitement the other day, I went round the whole of Sainsburys and it wasn’t until I got home that I realised I’d forgotten to buy them! What an idiot!
Have a lovely weekend, with your figs 😉
Oh no! They were still on offer when I picked some up this weekend. 🙂
This post made me super hungry. Well done on keeping up with your fitness goals, and well done on the red velvet cake. Nom nom!
Thanks Angela!
I love citrus cakes, or carrot cake with a lemony cream cheese icing. I have made a red velvet cake, and although it is quite nice I can’t really see what the fuss is about. Andy likes it a lot, but to me it is just a chocolate/vanilla cake coloured red. Maybe it is the icing?
Well done for keeping active too- I read the other day that keeping active during pregnancy will help with the birth, so it is great you are still doing what you can. Those 4 weeks will be over in a flash!
I get what you mean about red velvet cake. I’m not sure why I love it so much as there are far more interesting cakes out there. Time is definitely flying but, he could turn up any day from now though.
ok it’s only 8am here and I haven’t had breakfast as yet and looking at all your food here is making me super hungry. I did a lot of yoga when I was pregnant with my toddler and it really helped me feel great. Here’s to a safe delivery!
Thanks Amanda. Yoga has been great throughout my pregnancy.
All of your meals look delicious Jemma! I love seeing what other people eat because I’m a nosey one 😉 plus now I know figs are in season, thanks for sharing! My favourite cake has got to be lemon and poppyseed – classic and not too sweet. I used to dislike cake as a child (weird I know) but I’ve come a long way! xx

I’m glad that I’m not the only nosey one 🙂 Lemon and poppy seed is such a classic cake, yum!
All this food looks amazing!!
Thanks!
OMG those figs look amazing! Actually all your produce pictures looked amazing!
Thanks Avie!
Oh wow, that’s amazing that you’re still working out at 36 weeks. My weekend is fine thus far, loving the time away from work. I’ve been spending most of the bank holiday weekend fiddling about with my camera. I’m excited around incorporating it into my upcoming recipes….major improvement indeed,
I bet your having so much fun with it. It looks like such a good one too.
I love cake selections – the more the merrier 🙂 but coffee and walnut is the best!
I don’t think I’ve ever tried that flavour before.
This post just made me extremely hungry!
Ha! Sorry! 🙂
I am totally craving the homemade Bircher muesli topped with figs, cherries, walnuts and raisins! That looks so good.
It was epic!
ramen (the real ikind) is one of my favorite things i like to eat! 🙂 we try not to.. tooo often though since it’s probably not super healthy.
True, but it does make a nice treat. 🙂
I love figs too! We just moved, and have a fig tree in our yard…..score!
How lucky are you!!! 🙂
I’m totally hungry now, and seriously cutest bump girl!
Thanks Kristine! 🙂

Thanks Lauriel. Yes, I do love figs. Hope you manage to find some decent ones soon.
That cake looks SO good. I am a sucker for red velvet.
It really feels so autumnal doesn’t it! It was so wet and miserable today I was tempted to put the heating on!
I was tempted too, but opted for the duvet instead.
Well, that bump is just adorable. And I NEED that mug! It’s gorgeous!
Thank you Kendall! 🙂
You know when I visit wagamama I usually have that or ramen
I love Wagamama’s, yum!
Yum!! I love cake!! I am so happy you had a wonderful time with your family.
Thanks Raewyn!
What a lovely tummy and tea mug! It looks like you really enjoy figs, lol
Aww thank you!
I wish it was chilly here! It’s still in the 80’s+ Can’t wait for fall and cooler weather!!
I do love fall for a nice change, but also love the sunshine too. 🙂
Red velvet cake is SO GOOD. And that salad looks like my kinda meal!! Yum.
I need to eat figs more often. I always long for them but never get my act together to get some!
All of these look so delicious! If you can believe it, I’ve never actually had a fig before, haha! I’ll definitely pick some up soon if there in season 🙂
It has been so cold, we’ve been rained on so many times. All that food looks so yummy 🙂
August is not cold here in southern California. It’s been in the 100’s I’m ready for some Fall like weather.
