Pizza and healthy really aren’t two words that sit together well in the same sentence…

…however in this instance they do! Oh yes…a pizza that is both tasty and bursting with nutrition. Since starting my healthy living journey and blogging I have had the privilege of experiencing and discovering an array of weird and wonderful foods that I wouldn’t have dreamed of eating years ago. Pizza is one of those foods that I have always loved, but always feared the calories and the heavy pizza base. Although times have dramatically changed for me and fearing foods and their effect on my body I much enjoy creating recipes that are bursting of nutritional benefits…hence my love of socca pizzas.
Since coming across the joy of socca via Michelle and Lori I’ve been a bit obsessed. These grain free and protein packed crusts are highly versatile and can be easily adapted to suit many dietary preferences. I had a craving for pizza the other day and thought it had been a while since I had practised my socca making skills, so brushed off my frying pan and got to work.

- 1 1/2 cup gram flour
- 1 cup water
- 1 red pepper
- 1 courgette
- 1 spring onion
- cheddar cheese grated (optional)
- 2 tbsp Greek yoghurt (I used full fat)
- 1 1/2 tbsp peri-peri seasoning
- Sqeeze of lime juice
- red kidney beans
-
Chop the red pepper and courgette and coat in 1 tablespoon of the peri-peri seasoning and roast in the oven until tender. Meanwhile mix the gram flour and water together to make a thick batter. Heat up some oil in a frying pan until very hot and pour in the batter. Cook on one side until bubbles appear on the surface, this means that it's ready to flip and cook the other side. Whilst the other side is cooking, stir the remaining peri-peri spice into the Greek yoghurt with a squeeze of lime juice.
-
Once the socca pizza crust is cooked place on a plate and top with the peri-peri infused yoghurt. Spread over the vegetables and scatter with red kidney beans, grated cheese and spring onions. Eat and enjoy
It's important that the frying pan is super hot before adding the socca crust batter to cook to get the perfect crust.

My belly was very happy when I was munching on this! I do love experimenting with chickpea flour and it is one of my favourite grain free flour alternatives….intrigued? Check out my Super Fluffy Socca Pancakes recipe for another spin on a classic recipe using this fabulous flour.
I know that I will definitely be making more socca pizzas with my favourite toppings over the summer, yum!
Do you have a favourite pizza flavour? Have you tried socca pizza crusts before?
P.S. Sorry for the lack of WIAW this week, things have been super busy since returning from my mini-break! 🙂

Wow this looks crazy amazing! I can’t resist something bread based piled sky high with tasty veg and seasonings. The Greek yogurt inside was a great idea. I love how it totally serves as a secret ingredient for so many recipes! Cannot wait to try this out sometime this week 🙂 I hope you are well!

I’ve had socca before, in the South of France. I found it tastes very good with any topping or side that’s quite juicy and fresh, otherwise the socca can get a little stodgy. That and you’ve got to have the socca made as freshly as possible.
Got to love healthier alternative to naughty favourites, really need to try this!
I love socca, and have it for lunch a few times a week.
That looks really tasty! I try to stick with a grain free diet, so I’ll have to give this a try. I’ve made a variety of ‘grain free’ pizza crusts before, some work better than others!
It sounds lovely! I made socca once but it didn’t go too well so I haven’t tried again, maybe one day!
This looks delicious!! I haven’t tried socca crust yet, but I bet I’d like it! I’m a huge fan of pretty much all pizza, haha!
I have been seriously craving healthy pizza, thanks for the recipe!!
You’re welcome Emma 🙂 x
I’m not a massive pizza fan to be honest, but I always try to ensure we eat one the night before I have a long race. They’re nice and easy to throw in the oven and I love that you can mix it up so much with toppings each time you have one. I love topping mine with loads and loads of different veg.
I’ve never tried socca before.
