Now who enjoyed the 4 day working week? I know I did, especially because it involved this delicious slice of carrot cake.
Earlier this week, Alfie finally became road legal! I’m so proud of him. He has been driving his new car about town with a big smile on his face all week and I love the fact that he is taking so much joy in driving. I love driving, but it had become a bit of a chore for me, not that I minded picking Alfie up from work or driving all of the long distances single-handedly, but it was becoming quite draining some days. Now I can take pleasure in being the passenger and enjoy the sights of the countryside. I’ve found that I’ve missed so much of the beautiful scenery and buildings around Oxfordshire because I was sat in the driving seat all of the time.
In fact it has been a pretty delicious week of food for me:

My current go to green smoothie this week has been this banana, almond milk, spinach and vanilla protein powder one. It’s very simple, but tastes really good! I love that even in it’s uncomplicated form it’s also very nourishing.
This was another very simple meal that I whipped up on Thursday evening. I defrosted two sea bass fillets from the freezer and pan-fried them. My fillet was served with a mix of honey and soy veggies that I had just stir fried. Alfie had his sea bass fillet with French fries and a side salad, which he really loved.
I’ve been on another egg kick this week and this omelet that I made for lunch was a delight! Stuffed with a mix of sweet red onion, avocado, tomatoes and cheese I rolled it up and got stuck in. Although, if you are going to try this, be wary of pesky husbands who like to steal from your plate. 😉
Another favourite lunch of mine this week was this plate of plantain, jollof rice and an avocado salsa (avocado, tomatoes, red onion, green pepper).
We are trying to get back into the groove with Sunday lunches in our house, but want to mix things up a little rather than going for something traditional all the time. Last Sunday we went with traditional with roasted pork, roasted new potatoes with roasted apples and onion, steamed broccoli on the side and gravy. Thankfully, we had leftovers as this tasted brilliant.
To celebrate finding out the gender of our little lentil and a healthy pregnancy so far, we went on a massive shopping trip on bank holiday Monday. We followed this with a lovely dinner at Fisher’s restaurant, which I have reviewed before on the blog. For a starter we shared some squid. I chose the whole sea bass with an orange and fennel salad for my main. A dessert of sticky toffee pudding with ice cream was shared between the both of us, yum!
My workouts this week looked like this:
Monday – lots of walking and shopping
Tuesday – morning gym session (20 minutes gentle cardio and strength routine)
Wednesday – REST
Thursday – Prenatal yoga session
Friday – morning gym session (20 minutes gentle cardio and strength routine)
Saturday – short walk
Sunday – Prenatal yoga DVD with Tara Lee
I’m quite happy with what I fitted in this week. There was lots of walking involved and I managed to get some yoga in too. I’m hoping to use my prenatal yoga DVDs that I bought in my first trimester more next week and look for more YouTube videos to try as well.

Here, I am now at 21 weeks! I’m actually wearing my one an only maternity top that I own from H&M and of course it’s stripy! Apparently, according to my pregnancy app, the baby is now the size of a small banana and my uterus has how reached my belly button. Feeling the baby’s kicks get stronger has been wonderful this week, sometimes you can see my belly actually move with the big kicks.
Obviously the highlight of the week in terms of my pregnancy was going shopping for the baby on Monday. It was so nice shopping for our baby together, so we made a day of it, topped off with a wonderful evening meal. Next week I have another appointment with my midwife, so I get to hear the baby’s heart beat again. Also, we are off to the Baby Show at the NEC, so I cannot wait for that.
There has been lots of celebrating going on this week and there are lots of positive vibes floating about. I’m so happy that Alfie has passed his test as it means I don’t have to drive myself to the labour ward when the time comes…imagine that!
How did you feel after passing your driving test? Did you celebrate the occasion?
What is the best thing that you have eaten this week?

Some great food ideas. I love my green smoothies, avacado, omelets, fish, carrot cake – you have loads of my favourite foods there. Yumm.
Glad you enjoyed my post and the food. 🙂
It’s half past eight in the morning and you’ve made me feel hungry already. Some lovely food inspiration. Can’t remember what I did after passing my driving test – way too long ago!
Hahaha! Hope you ate something delicious!
Congratulations to Alfie- like you say you need him to be able to drive you when the baby comes, so good timing!
It has worked out rather well. 🙂
Gemma, you look fantastic at 21 weeks! What a neat little bump you have! Congrats to Alfie on passing his driving test also!
Aww thank you Lucie! X
it all looks so yummy 🙂 fab post xx
Thanks Chloe!
Well done to Alfie for passing his test! Dan passed his test quite late on (Age 23/24?) and I had been getting very fed up of doing all the driving everytime we went out. Now we try and split the driving rota based on who has the most petrol in their car!
I can’t wait to spilt the driving on longer drives – it makes such a difference.
Congrats to Alfie. Nick’s only just passed his, and after driving us around everywhere since the age of 17, I’m quite looking forward to being driven around once we get a car at some point in the future when we need one.
It does feel like a luxury I have to say. Congrats to Nick! 🙂
Congrats to Alfie!! I absolutely hated my driving test. One of the most stressful things in the world.
How crazy would that have been driving to the hospital in labour?!
Loving the seabass meal – sounds delicious!
I haven’t taken my driving test. I learnt to drive 12 years ago, but never took my test as I moved to a big city and I don’t need to drive here.
Lots of delicious looking food in this post too 🙂
Ah congratulations to Alfie 🙂
