Friday was our Christmas party at work and it was so much fun. It was a masquerade party so the dress code was black tie and everyone had to wear a mask. I ordered mine a little bit late, so I was really happy when it arrived the day before the party, thank goodness for express delivery. There was a 3 course meal, a magician, caricaturist, and a stand up comic. I left a little bit early so that I could make it to Alfie’s work Christmas party that was on the same day, but unfortunately those plans didn’t pan out so well and ended up back at home putting my feet up.
The chocolate brownie and ice cream for dessert was pretty epic. Actually all of the food was great!
Yesterday morning I woke up and felt the urge to go for a run. It was freezing cold outside, but it was so worth it as it was a beautiful morning in the countryside. I did keep getting evil eye stares from the sheep in the fields though because of my keys jangling in pocket…ooops!
After my run I made this:
A cherry and coconut baked oat cake topped with chocolate hazelnut butter from The Protein Works as part of a package I have been sent to review. It was so yummy and really simple to make. I can just about remember what I put in it and will have to share the recipe with you soon. I’m most definitely making baked oat cakes again in the future.
For lunch I made a quick version of my Festive Sprout Salad i.e. I couldn’t be bothered to shred the sprouts this time round. It still worked out great though and I think it’s an affirmation that this is a very easy salad to throw together on Christmas day, which let’s face it can be a tad chaotic. I added a some goat’s cheese on top and put it back in the microwave for a few minutes so that the cheese goes all gooey. This is one of my favourite salads right now.
I spent the afternoon taking some pretty pictures of some recipes coming up on the blog, I cannot wait to share them with you all. We watched the first Hobbit movie too and wrapped up some Christmas gifts. Then in the evening we actually went to see The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. We really loved it – J.R.R Tolkien is pure genius!
Well I’m going to get back to my weekend, hope you are all having fun. The winner of the Christmas Hamper Giveaway is… Olivia Kirby! Can you please drop me an email at celeryandcupcakes@gmail.com so that I can organise your prize.
Have you ever been to a masquerade party? Tell me all about it.
Do you like the Hobbit movies?

The masquerade party sounds really fun! I got dressed up masquerade style for a gig a couple of weeks ago so if I do get invited to a masquerade party in the future I’ll already have the mask! Those baked oats look amazing. x
Absolutely, it was brilliant! Although the masks are really freaky.
I love The Hobbit! I was watching it in the bath this morning. We are saving the second movie for the weekend between Christmas and New Year
Oh Laura you will love it! Enjoy!
Masks freak me out, so that party sounds like one of my nightmares!
That salad looks lovely, although I would take out the sprouts haha!
I find them freaky too. I didn’t even wear mine and just held it the entire time.
I saw The Hobbit on Friday and it was brilliant. It was a much quicker paced film than the last one. I loved it. Loved Orlando Bloom in it again hehe I had such a crush on him when I was a teenager.
It was fantastic wasn’t it. I wouldn’t mind seeing it again!
What a gorgeous mask Jemma, love the detail. That brownie dessert looks pretty yummy too 🙂
I had the urge to go for a run this morning, I’m actually enjoying going out in the slighter cooler and wetter weather we’re having at the moment.
Can’t wait to see what you’ve cooked up!
It beats it being ridiculously hot, but I would like it a bit warmer 🙂
Sounds like a great weekend. We went to see the Hobbit last night, I enjoyed it, but it was overly long.
It is really long but I loved it!
that sunrise is beautiful!
It’s lovely isn’t it!
Thankyou so much, I am chuffed to bits!
I have never been to a masquerade ball myself, sounds fun!
I really like the look of that cherry and coconut oat cake. I love cherry and coconut together, it is one of my favourite flavour combinations and if I am feeling really naughty, I like the addition of white chocolate!
I have emailed you, so sorry about being a wee bit late, my little boy is 3 this week and we have been away at the weekend and today we were feeding reindeer and visiting Father Christmas!
