I love snacking on dried fruit and nuts as a healthier alternative to see me through to my next meal. Not only do they taste good but they also have the added benefit of being nutritious and good for you too.
There has been a lot in the news in recently about the benefits of superfoods, packed full of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. One of the top 5 most popular superfoods which I eat quite regularly are goji berries.
The goji berry is a little smaller than a raisin and is vivid red in colour. They taste very sweet and are great topper to your breakfast cereal, oats and smoothies.
Itβs amazing how much good stuff is packed into these small berries. They are a fabulous source of protein as they contain 18 amino acids, including all of the 8 essential amino acids. Also, they contain iron, zinc, calcium and selenium, B vitamins, vitamin E and are extremely dense in beta-carotene.
Another superfood that I have grown to love are incan berries which originate from South America. They have the whole sweet and sour taste going on, which I love and retain their small seeds.
Like goji berries are full to the brim with nutritional benefits such as pectin, vitamins A, B and C. They also made up of 16% protein. Again they can be used for snacking and for toppings on smoothies and desserts.
I have a great little trail mix recipe for you which incorporates both of these superfoods in a healthy and raw trail mix.
Raw Chocolate and Berry Trail Mix
3 tablespoons of incan berries
3 tablespoons of goji berries
2 tablespoons of shelled hemp seeds
2 tablespoons of almonds
2 tablespoons of raisins
2 tablespoons of sunflower seeds
3 tablespoons of Cacao nibs
This trail mix is great for when you are on the go and makes a great topping for a whole host of different things. Simply store it in an air tight container and it will keep for ages.
Not only is this trail mix super tasty it also has the added benefits of being raw too. Raw food is all about embracing unprocessed foods and alkalizing your body. You reap all of the nutrients and goodness from the food in its near to natural form. I love implementing raw foods into my diet every now and then and I have been loving this trail mix.
Have you ever tried goji and incan berries before? What did you think?
Do you experiment with raw foods?

This looks so good! I don’t know how healthy they are, but I’m obsessed with dried strawberries – they taste so good! I have some in my Graze punnet waiting for me π x
Oh my gosh YUM that sounds so good!!!
I love incan berries and cacao nibs, so good. That trail mix looks very tasty and full of goodness!
Nice post! I’ve been wanting to encooperate goji berries into my world so the trail mix is a lovely idea thx! π xxx
I quite like goji berries but I think they are not that much nicer than other dried fruits – dried cherries are my fave. That trail mix looks lovely
I always have a big mason jar with a mix like this made up of superfoods. You can buy mixes but they are so expensive, so I like to make my own. Inca berries are awesome. Mulberries are my current favourite.
That trail mix looks so good! I have tried to like goji berries but by themselves I find them too sour. I recently got some incan berries in my Graze box and really liked them although they are quite sour! x
I love goji berries because they’re not too sweet, I like to eat raw foods and try to add them into my diet as often as I can x
