Sometimes when the afternoon comes nothing else will do but cake. Yesterday at work we were all struggling to get through the afternoon so I treated my work colleagues to a huge raspberry ripple cheese cake.
This really was heavenly and exactly what we all needed to see us through the rest of the shift.
All this week other than loving the little rays of sunshine, despite it being chilly I have been enjoying some lovely food too.
Despite the sunshine it has felt a little cold in the mornings still. Usually I would have eaten the chopped apples as they were but instead I warmed them in the microwave and dusted them with cinnamon and topped them with coconut cream.
It seems that I am addicted to apples as a side to other things which is something that I hadn’t really noticed before. I’ve had them chopped with a homemade apple and cinnamon hot cross bun topped with butter and blueberry jam.
I also love apples dusted with cinnamon and scrambled eggs, yum!
Honestly I haven’t been apples all week! For lunch the other day at work I mixed some smoked salmon with some Greek yoghurt for a topping on my baked sweet potato with a salad. Despite how simple this lunch was it was surprisingly tasty!
These plain oats made with water topped with baby figs (on offer in Sainsbury’s, almond butter and local honey comb was delicious. I’m so happy that figs are around again!
A very busy and productive week spiked with tasty and nutritious food, I love week’s like these. I hope you all have a lovely weekend!
What are you favorite ways to eat apples?
Do you have a go-to afternoon pick me up? The cheesecake made for a lovely treat, but usually I like to have tea with a Nakd bar, nuts, fruit or carrots dipped in almond butter.

At the moment I’m trying to not to snack in the afternoon, otherwise it just seems to make me hungrier and eat more! I have a Nakd bar after my lunch and then a couple of clementines in the afternoon – rather than what I used to do, which was have a Nakd bar in the afternoon, followed by the clems over the course of the afternoon. This trick seems to leave me satisfied until dinner!
Great to hear that you have found a snacking routine that works for you!
I usually have an apple and some nuts as an afternoon pick-me-up as I like to exercise in the evenings before I have dinner 🙂
Apples with nuts are a great snack, full of healthy fats and fuel for a workout.
I don’t have a go-to pick me up, but I always have a protein bar at my desk, just in case I need it (and I usually do!) Then sometimes I’ll have a coffee, as well 🙂
I think I would be buzzing way into the evening on coffee in the afternoon. It has such a strange effect on me and leaves me bursting with energy,
I love apples too! My favourite way to eat them is with peanut butter, nom nom! In the afternoons there is nothing better than cake…Enjoy your weekend! Peg x
Cake makes a lovely treat in the afternoons, glad I’m not alone on that one 🙂
I am completely addicted to apples, I have them with everything although with nut butter is my favourite 🙂
The are perfect with nut butters, yum!
Right now in my caramel apple cake! Have a lovely weekend 🙂
Oohhh that sounds fantastic!
I love apples, I just like eating them plain but I like juicing them too! Afternoon pick me up would be a smoothie/juice or a bar of some sort.
Homemade apple juice sounds lovely.
I love your post, Jemma! So many variations for apples! Awesome! I want to try them all!!
Hehe, it’s amazing how many different ways that you can eat them.
I like them au naturale! But also in apple crumble made with a granola style topping
Sounds so good, you cannot beat a crumble!
My favourite way to eat apples is just on their own and chopped with nothing added. Im an apple purist! Though obviously I’d never say no to apple crumble!!
I’m with you on the crumble!
I’ve been on a serious apple kick for what feels like -months- now, and my favorite way to eat them is definitely as homemade applesauce. The only downside is that I could probably easily eat 3 or 4 apples worth of that stuff a day without even noticing!
I so have to try your apple sauce It has been doing the rounds in blog land.
