It’s been one of those surreal week’s where so much has happened that you can’t quite believe that its reality. With our little man’s early first birthday party last Sunday, a celebrity spotting at Blenheim Palace where we saw Jonathan Ross filming a documentary about the new James Bond movie, relocating to Dorset and Aiden’s first birthday yesterday, what an epic week it’s been!
Leaving our little cottage wasn’t as emotional as I thought it was going to be. We have so many ties and happy memories in that house – it was our first martial home and where we brought our newborn baby home. They do say that it’s the people who make the home and once all of our stuff was packed on the lorry it just felt like an empty shell. One thing that I will miss is the village community and that tight-knit bond, which hopefully we will establish again in our new town by the sea. Of course, one of the main things that I will miss and more importantly are all the friends that we have made and I know that we will be making lots of trips back up to Oxford to visit them all.
What I’ve Been Eating This Week
After all the birthday cake from Aiden’s party I was craving a smoothie, but because we didn’t go food shopping and running low on supplies before we moved there was no spinach in the house. Instead of a green smoothie, I managed to whip up a banana, peach and peanut butter smoothie that tasted amazing!
I was trying to use up everything in the fridge before we moved, so I was eating lots of bowls of berries and fruit like this for breakfast. I’m still on the fig train and really enjoyed them with Greek yoghurt, honey, snicker doodle almond butter and berries.
More berries this time on top of porridge cooked with a mashed banana for natural sweetness. I added some Greek yoghurt and cinnamon on top too.
Leftovers are just awesome! This salad was made up from a mishmash of leftover bits from the birthday party the day before. It was just a leftover cous cous salad, quinoa salad, potato salad, coleslaw and mixed salad leaves, so simple but so tasty for lunch.
Yesterday we went into town for a family lunch to celebrate Aiden’s birthday before taking him to his first soft play session, which he really loved. We spotted a pub that looked like an old tavern inside and decided to give it a try. I fancied something comforting and went for the chicken pie with vegetables. OMG! This was amazing and the food baby afterwards tells me that my belly was very happy too.
This morning I devoured this almond croissant with berries for breakfast whilst watching the sun come up over the sea from our living room window, it’s such a stunning view.
Even though I still can’t quite believe my little man has reached the epic milestone on one, I really am loving this ages – he’s just so cheeky and fearless! It’s been one incredible roller coaster of a year and yesterday’s birthday celebrations in our new surroundings almost seemed to highlight the fact that we are entering a new chapter in our lives. Of course, the best thing about having 2 birthday celebrations is that you get to have two birthday cakes…amen to that!

Many congratulations on your new home.I am sure your new house will be filled with the same love in due course.
Thank you! 🙂
Most of this looks so good and is so healthy. Really no reason to eat junk food! I think I am going to try the cous cous salad – looks yum!

The salad is wonderful and great to store in the fridge for quick and easy lunches.
Happy Birthday to Aiden.
Hope you will have fun in your new town.
Thanks!
Happy birthday Aiden I hope you had a wonderful day! And how exciting about moving house! I hope it has all gone very smoothly. I’ve never really become that attached to a house. When I left my childhood home I was so ready to go there was no heartache there. The flat we are in now is the first flat where Jon and I have lived together and whilst we have lots of happy memories here and it’s a lovely flat I will be happy to move on. I guess the hardest thing is when you think you have your forever home but have to move on for reasons outside of your control. On a more happy note, I remember the best birthday cake I ever had – it was one Jon made me after we had moved in together. It was the first time anyone had insisted I wasn’t allowed to bake my own birthday cake. He made it in an old casserole dish and it was a little bit of a funny shape but tasted delicious! 🙂
I think this has been the least stressful house move so far, but that’s because we hired the most amazing removal men. Ha! Your birthday cake was made with love by Jon, so it must be very special to you, despite its funny shape.
I usually have a green smoothie for breakfast with banana, chocolate protein powder and peanut butter. I have never tried peach in it. That sounds interesting! The quinoa salad looks wonderful!
The peach adds a lovely natural sweetness and it also tastes great with vanilla protein powder! 🙂
Happy birthday to your little man 🙂
It sounds like you have had a very busy week. Good luck in your new house!
Thanks Dannii, it’s been a whirlwind of a week, but definitely worth it!
Happy birthday to your little boy! The food you eat is very similar to mine, I love your leftovers salad! I moved away from my home 4 years ago and I know how sad it can be but I am sure your new place will soon feel like home too!
Thank you!! We were unpacking yesterday and it’s already starting to feel like home. I’m really loving the new house already!
Ahh happy birthday to your lovely little man! The party food looks amazing.
How quickly time has flown!
I think the best birthday cake was this year that one of my running friends made me. It was apple flavoured and had been decorated so beautifully.
Wow time flies! Happy birthday to Aiden 🙂
Dorset is such a lovely place- one of my favourite weekend away spots- I am sure you will settle in soon.
