{Episode 89} Finding yourself again without burning your life down

Many mums quietly wonder, When did I lose myself?  You love your children. You’re grateful for your life. And yet, something feels missing. You feel disconnected, flat, or unsure who you are anymore, and the thought of changing things feels terrifying.

This is one of the most common experiences in motherhood, and it doesn’t mean you’re ungrateful or failing. It means you’ve been surviving.

Why So Many Mums Feel Lost After Having Children

Motherhood often pushes women into survival mode. Your focus shifts to keeping everyone else safe, fed, supported, and emotionally regulated.

Over time, there’s little space left to ask:

  • What do I want now?

  • What matters to me anymore?

  • Who am I beyond caring for everyone else?

Feeling lost isn’t a sign that you need a new life. It’s a sign that you need reconnection.

Why Burning Your Life Down Can Feel Tempting

When you’ve been disconnected from yourself for a long time, dramatic change can feel like the only option. You feel tempted to run away, start over, and become someone completely different. But often, what you’re really craving isn’t escape, it’s relief.

You don’t need to burn everything down to feel like yourself again. You need support, honesty, and space to change gently.

Identity After Motherhood Isn’t About Going Backwards

You’re not meant to be the same woman you were before kids.  Identity in motherhood isn’t about returning to who you were; it’s about integrating who you’ve become, which is such a massive reframe for my coaching clients. The resilience, depth, values, and awareness that have grown through this season.

How to Start Finding Yourself Again

Reconnection doesn’t begin with action; it begins with awareness.  You can start slowly by noticing:

  • What feels heavy right now?

  • What drains you that you keep tolerating?

  • Where are you ignoring your own needs to keep the peace?

You don’t need answers immediately or have a perfect plan in place; simply listening to yourself again is enough to begin.

You Can Find Yourself Without Losing Your Life

The bottom line is that you can reconnect with your truest self without having to reinvent who you are.  You don’t need to blow everything up or have it all figured out.  Finding yourself again is a relationship, one you rebuild slowly, honestly, and gently inside the life you already have.
