Small Changes to a Healthier You
In collaboration with Hello Fresh.
Often I hear from people that they are struggling to adopt a healthier way of life and it’s very common that they will give up after the first hurdle. For me healthy living doesn’t have to be difficult, it’s a lifestyle that we choose to lead in order to feel fabulous.
A lot of the time when trying to become healthier we put far too much pressure on ourselves, it’s not going to happen overnight. Taking it slowly is what is going to lead to your success in changing the way you approach your health and the food that you eat. Small changes to your daily routine will accumulate into something awesome and it won’t be a short-term fix; if you are really committed these small changes could set you up for a lifetime.
Healthy living for me is not about perfection, but about embracing the flaws that we have been blessed with as they are what make us uniquely beautiful. Life is far too short and should be spent being happy, enjoying the food that you love celebrating just being the person you are meant to be. Everyone has their own perception of what healthy is to them, it’s subjective and one size isn’t going to fit all.
One thing that I really do believe is once you have found what works for you and is realistic in your life, you’re going to love it!
Entering the realms of wellness can be scary for some and a happier experience for others, but it should be a positive experience for all. Starting today, literally right this minute you can start your journey to a healthier you. It’s totally up to you. Sorry if I’m sounding preachy, but what I want to emphasise is that by carving out time for yourself or by eating an extra portion of veg, over time it will make a real difference to your wellbeing – small changes that may seem like nothing can accumulate into something wonderful.
Here are some simple and practical ideas that you could incorporate over the course of a week that will lead you on the path to a healthier and happier you.
Creating time in your day for yourself
Now if you didn’t know by now, empowering women to create space for themselves in their day is a mission of mine. It’s so important to help you feel your best, in control of your thoughts and actions and give your 100% to everyone and everything.
Taking some time for yourself may feel difficult at first, however, think of it this way, it’s just 10 minutes in 24 hours for you. The more you practice it, with more ease it will come until you don’t even think about it. These 10 minutes can be spent in ways that lift and support you which may include a pamper session with some of your favourite products, listening to a podcast, connecting with nature, journaling, etc.

Keep hydrating your body
Let it be known, drinking 2 litres of water a day is hard! However, it is good for your body and will help you feel much healthier. I’m on ‘drink more water’ mission at the minute and I can’t say that I’m getting my 2 litres in every day, however, I know that I’m drinking more than I used to and feeling better for it.
Developing a realistic morning
My morning routine is up and down at the moment, but with 2 little ones, that’s to be expected. I’m of the mindset of “do what you can when you can” and when I’m able to practice my morning routine it really sets me up for the day. I feel like I’ve eased into the day rather than being thrown into it.

Don’t punish yourself for your food choices
We’re not perfect, if you tell me that there is a person who lives off salad and green beans all day every day I wouldn’t believe you. It’s OK to have cravings for cakes, chocolate and crisps, I for one can’t resist the urge to face-plant myself in a big fat wedge of chocolate cake and won’t apologise for it either. The problem is how much you eat and how often you eat these kinds of foods, it’s all about finding that happy medium that works for you.
I don’t believe in restricting yourself if you want to eat some shortbread then go for it just have a couple instead of the whole pack. Being healthy also means being in tune with your body and giving it what it wants. A couple of biscuits as part of a healthy lifestyle isn’t going to make you put on weight just like not eating them will instantly make you slimmer.

Move your body in ways that you love
Take the stairs instead of the lift, get off the bus a couple of stops further than you normally do and walk – these very basic changes will eventually have an impact. I’ve really been loving getting out for my walks recently and getting some fresh air as a form of exercise. There is so much out there that you can do to move more that doesn’t have to involve the gym if that isn’t your thing. It doesn’t have to take 2 hours to workout, use whatever time you have available in your day whether its 45 minutes or 10 minutes, it all counts!
Exercise doesn’t have to be boring, find something that you truly love, have fun and you are already halfway there.

Remove the negativity and focus on the positives
When you’re swamped by negative influences it does nothing for your mental wellbeing. You can feel suffocated and overwhelmed with all these emotions weighing you down. A positive mindset can set you up for a happier and healthier life because when we focus on the good we attract more good into our lives.
