Affirmation Cards: How I Use Them Everyday

Over the past couple of years, I’ve really got into the power of affirmations and the effect that they can have on my overall outlook on things. This was especially so during my pregnancy and the idea appealed to me during my first active labour class, which feels like forever ago now.

Starting out I felt so unprepared for the birth and a bit freaked out by it, to be honest, and had doubts about whether I would be able to make it through a natural and unassisted birth, which I had put on my birth preferences.  During my class, my teacher read out positive affirmations connected to labour and it definitely helped me feel more empowered and confident about birth, which is now why I use affirmations nearly every day or when I need them.

I like to think of myself as a positive person, always seeing the silver lining in every cloud, however with the ebbs and flows of life, it’s understandable why we become so negative and downbeat, but that’s OK.  Even though things may feel like total crap at the time, I believe that certain situations are brought to us to test us and facilitate our growth.

Affirmation cards are a massive reminder to me that everything is going to be OK and to stop the negative self-talk.  Not only do they help to pull me out of a funk, but they also inspire and instill a sense of hope; I find them incredibly motivational.

My first deck of affirmation cards that I ever bought were Miracles Now: Inspirational Affirmations and Life-Changing Tools, by Gabrielle Bernstein, which are great for guidance and developing a nurturing mindset.  Since buying my first deck, I’ve become hooked and went on to buy the very beautifully illustrated Crazy Sexy Love Notes by Kris Carr, which are full of fantastic reminders focused on self-love and self-care.  My collection now also includes:

It sounds unbelievable that repeating a series of positive statements can have such an effect, but they have really made an impression on me. Striving to be positive almost pushes those negative thoughts to the back of the mind.  Sure, they still pop up in my head now and then, but having an affirmation to focus my thoughts is really comforting and enables me to find the motivation that I need or to rewrite that story in my head.

Affirmations can be applied to nearly all situations, whether that is to do with work, family life, health or even the prospect of your car breaking down on the side of the road.

Focusing on negative thoughts can generally have harmful effects on your outlook on life and how you handle certain situations.  Words can have such an amazing impact on the way that we think and the more we say something the more we believe it to be true. Consequently, repeating statements that are positive relating to specific situations can alter our thought processes, behavior and how we approach things.

When you focus on the positive things that you have in your life you attract more of that back into your life.  The power of affirmations is that it helps to put your mindset in that positive and energetic space, while giving you some food for thought too.

Most mornings, I like to journal out my morning thoughts for about 10 minutes and pull an affirmation card or two to give me some positive focus for my writing.  I love creating this personal development space for myself at the start of my day.  It’s a wonderful way to check in on myself before I check in on the world.

We can also combine this ritual with custom enamel pins, turning our favorite quotes into personalized enamel pins—small, exquisite pins that we can carry with us, serving as constant reminders.

Whether pinned to a bag, coat, or even a journal, these Custom Pin Badges allow me to see and recall those frequently used affirmations, especially on busy days when there’s no time to flip through the cards.

They transform a simple motivational tool into a meaningful accessory. For those of us who, like me, love affirmation cards, custom enamel pins are the perfect way to keep positive energy with you, no matter where life takes you.

The great thing about affirmations is that they do not have to be complicated, just a short statement made up of a couple of words will do.  As long as they have a positive effect, offer comfort and empowerment, then you are half way there.  Some of my personal favourites include:

  • ‘The world needs to see what I have to offer.’
  • ‘I am worthy of success and I will reach success.’
  • ‘I accept myself as I am and who I will continue to be.’
  • ‘I am more than enough”
  • I chose to not be weighed down by the negative thoughts that are in my head.”
  • ‘Small steps forward is still progress.’
