How to Make Time For Breakfast Every Day
In collaboration with Lizi’s Granola.
‘Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a queen and dinner like a pauper.’
Indeed, breakfast is by far my most favourite meal of the day and I always make sure that I have a proper sit-down breakfast because I feel like I can start my day properly when I do. The weekends are terrific because I can be really leisurely where breakfast is concerned and really savour every mouthful since I don’t have to rush around.
Shockingly, there is a huge proportion of people in the UK that don’t eat breakfast. With the school run, a job and a house to run in some ways this can be completely understandable, if only there were 26 hours in a day, right?
Eating breakfast not only sets me up for the day, but I know that it’s also fantastic for my long-term health. Having a well-balanced breakfast in the morning is great for promoting concentration and keeping you focused on your work. It’s also a great way to boost your metabolism and help to keep your blood sugar levels stable.
I like to make a ritual out of breakfast and it’s a massive part of my morning routine and one of my non-negotiables that I always make the time for.
Having a protein-packed breakfast can help to keep your belly satisfied until lunch and is something that I have tried to carry out in my diet. Obviously, we’re all different and it’s all about exploring what works for you. For me, I know that by starting the day with a healthy and nourishing breakfast packed with protein I’m doing my best to set myself up for a super day ahead!
If you’re in the habit of skipping breakfast, here are some tips that I’m sharing with Lizi’s Granola’s on how to make the day a whole lot better with a healthy nourishing breakfast.
Prepare the night before
Having some extra time in the morning is a saviour when you’re always in a rush. Take some time in the evening to prepare breakfast the night before to take the stress out of your morning routine. Something like my Blueberry Cinnamon Ricotta Waffles or Chai Spiced Berry & Almond Baked Oatmeal can be made in advance and stored in the fridge to keep you stocked in healthy breakfasts throughout the week.
This High Protein Breakfast Bircher recipe by Lizi’s also looks like a good option for a make-ahead breakfast.
Wake up 10 minutes earlier
Other than getting ahead the night before to make more time in your mornings another simple way is to wake up 10 minutes earlier to squeeze breakfast into your morning. Not only will you be able to make a speedy breakfast, but you will also give your body a chance to wake up rather than just rushing out the door.
Take it with you
Packing a portable breakfast that you can take with you on the school run or on your commute to work is one of the easiest ways to make sure you get a healthy start to your day.
A breakfast smoothie can be whipped up in minutes and you can even store the ingredients in a bag in the freezer so they are ready to blend up when required. Try making my Chia Berry Blast Smoothie for something a bit different, it’s so creamy!
Another idea is to pop some Lizi’s High Protein Granola into a portable container and take a pot of yogurt and some berries with you to eat at your desk at work.
Write it into your schedule
Writing things down makes them feel more official and adds a sense of permanence. Work meetings and dentist appointments make it into the planner, but what about breakfast? Blocking out time in your diary every morning will make sure that you have the available time to dedicate to a decent breakfast.
Stock up the freezer
The freezer is such an underrated appliance, but it can really help you lead a healthier lifestyle and shift your mindset that you don’t have time for breakfast. Fill it with healthy breakfast muffins, waffles, pancakes and ready-made smoothie bags that you can defrost the night before so breakfast is ready before you’ve even woken up.

I always have cereal for breakfast, but would be nice to try something different! X
There are so many yummy alternatives out there to try.
I can’t function properly without breakfast and don’t kbow how people do, or how I used to in fact haha x
Same here! It’s seems crazy to me! 🙂
I’ve moved from having an early breakfast to late morning. I noticed that I get hungry at around 10 whether I eat breakfast at home or not, so now I don’t eat anything until I have my bowl of porridge which reduces the amount of snacking I do in the morning. I don’t know if that classes me as having breakfast or not, but I haven’t noticed any change in how I feel after making the change.
My kids and I eat breakfast every day. I have always liked a bowl of cereal with milk, which is easy to make and healthy as long as you choose a whole grain cereal.
Definitely, cereal can be healthy too.
Loved this post! I never eat breakfast, but wish I did.
Thank you! You really should, it’s so good for you.
Breakfast is such an important meal. I try and have bran flakes or toast. If I am going out for breakfast I must admit to having a bacon sandwich!
These are great tips- I’ve been working harder at making myself something healthy each morning lately. The true test will be when maternity leave ends.
Good for you Jessy. Hopefully your healthy habits will be so ingrained into your routine you’ll be fine after maternity leave.
Waffles sound delicious! I love your notebook too! Some brill tips x
Thanks Emily. I haven’t made those waffles for a while, maybe one for this weekend.
I have never had a problem squeezing in breakfast, it’s just automatic for me:-)
Same here, it’s just part of my morning routine now.
I have a very light breakfast of peanut butter on gluten-free toast with a cup of tea. I feel a bit uncomfortable if I eat too much first thing but even worse if I skip breakfast.
Sometimes I feel like something light too, especially if I’ve eaten heavy the night before.
I don’t understand people not having time for breakfast! There are so many things that are quick and easy. It’s like saying you don’t have time to put your shoes on.
Love that analogy Sarah! It’s true though, you just have to work it into your morning schedule until it becomes routine.
Planning my diet and nutrition is a major priority for me for medical reasons. I have to follow the FODMAP diet and support from a brilliant consultant. Even on days when I feel very unwell and can’t manage a solid breakfast, I still go for warm soy milk, nut butter and fruit (protein, fats, carbohydrates) at the very least. On the better days I’ve noticed that an eggy breakfast i.e. scrambled, omelette, boiled etc. is helping. The biggest thing I’ve learnt is that everyone is different. Every body is different. Do whatever it is that you need to do to be as well and happy as you can be.
So true Divya. Not one size fits all as the media would have us all believe. Happy to hear you’ve found something that works so well for you.
I am not me without breakfast! Preparing the night before helps me a lot x
Preparing the night before helps me out a lot too! 🙂
There’s never an excuse to skip brekkie. Great tips. Especially freezing some off, I never thought of that ????
The freezer is such a great healthy living tool! 🙂
I love breakfast but I seriously need some new ideas to inspire me! I love the sound of your baked oatmeal so much, I think I’ll have to look at making some. Feel free to throw more ideas my way! xx
Oh there is so much that you can try, smoothies, kedgeree, muffins, avocado and scrambled eggs…I could go on…
I don’t understand people who skip breakfast- on work days I get mine ready the night before which helps.
Me too! It’s so easy to prepare something the night before or something quick in the morning.
